We've all heard the saying, "Don't judge a book by its cover." Middle school students are beginning to find themselves and often struggle choosing friends or being accepted by peer groups. My project will include reading these three books throughout the school year and discussing the importance of accepting others. I hope to show students the importance of diversity and that not all students fit the same mold. Students will lead analytical discussions and provide concrete examples from the text to support literary elements. Students will read each of these books in the classroom to foster conversations about each student's unique abilities. At the conclusion of reaching each book, we will have a seminar exploring the theme of each book and the lessons that we can learn. Furthermore, when students are finished reading these books, they will complete a cross-curricular project in language arts called Read, Write, and Revise. This project allows students to select books to read. In turn, students select a writing prompt based on the genre of the book. Students must then formulate a five paragraph essay on this prompt and submit to the teacher for assessment. Teachers will then provide feedback on the essays and return the writing piece to students to revise until a perfect essay is completed! Please consider taking this journey with me by donating to a special cause!
