Because of your generous donations, my students now have sight word readers to read as they build their concepts of print and become familiar with more sight words. The children get so excited when they see words they know how to read in print. Reading these books that are made up primarily of sight words and small words that they can use their letter-sound knowledge to stretch, blend and read, will boost my students self esteem and confidence as they begin to see themselves as readers! In preparation for the delivery of these books, I told the children that my favorite author is Mo Willems. I mentioned some of the characters from books written by Mo Willems to see if the children knew of any- Piggy and Elephant, Trixie and Knufflebunny, etc. Some of the children knew of these characters and were so excited that, due to your generous donations, these books were going to be part of our classroom. When the books were delivered, the children were so excited.
