Photography for SPED Class
Funded Jun 6, 2024Your donations allowed me to have students learn how to take pictures and print them right there in my classroom. They were able to see how technique and holding the camera steady impacts their shots.
The grant did not come in time for my upper SDC - reg. school year, but I was able to use it with my summer school class. They were fascinated about how the camera works, and how they can be an artist through looking threw a lens.
I plan on giving the Camera to my upper grade class at my school since I will be retiring soon. My family, friends, sister & I donated most of the money for this grant to try and get it in time for my regular SDC SPED class.
Again - thanks to all you donors & supporters for this grant, and all the DC grants I have received throwout the years - It truly does impact teachers and classrooms directly!”

Tech Support for My SPED Students!
Funded Mar 31, 2024Thank you for your support - Having the ability to write grants and have family and friends being able to donate towards our classroom has been a great way to support teachers and our classrooms - Thank you Donor's Choose.
For this grant I did not get a bigger grant funded (1st time) - so I wrote it for the "must haves" to support my students this year. I have already been giving put / switching my student computer sleeves to the new heavier / better covers. The old computer cart C charging wires only last so long, and the new wires have been a God send especially during testing when they need their computers charged daily.
Thanks again for all your support - it does make a difference directly for my SPED students!”

Ms. Singh
Lets Work Smart!
Funded Jan 3, 2020Wow what a difference you have made in our special education, special day class.
Because of you we have a television to display their projects on. We have made our IB Exhibition projects more like a science fair with 3 rotations outside with students presenting as a small group, and then taking questions from the families. It has worked great, but the power points have been hard to see when it is outside. Using the TV you helped our class get, on a wheeled stand I purchased, I can take it outside and use it for a clear picture presentation.
You also helped us have our own brother laser BW printer, so we can differentiate instruction, as well as print directly from the student's chrome books.
We really appreciate your support! Thanks!”

Ms. Singh

Funded Jul 19, 2022We have really appreciated your support last year for our Donors' Choose grant. The art organizer and computer sleeves as well as other donations have helped our special ed class keep our projects organized and not damaged.
Having hands-on materials that support their STEAM learning is exciting and engaging for my students that struggle with reading and math.
When the students get issued a district computer they can take home, and I hand them a computer sleeve to protect it they are so thankful knowing their laptops can stay protected at home.
Thanks again for your support of my special ed. students and their work!”

Funded Feb 17, 2021Thank you so much for all your support! This grant allowed us teachers who were teaching students in their home and school to better engage with them. I could actually see my students better with the larger monitor, then just our small laptop screens during distance learning.
Last year I had two grade levels in my special ed, special day class, with the 5th graders needing to work on their big 5th grade IB project. I ended up zooming and having students in class at the same time, dividing my class into AM/PM by grade level, instead of in class in the AM & distance learning in the PM.
The monitor was used so that the students could see each other and helped with class discussions and engagement. Thanks again for your support for teachers who were teaching during a very challenging time of mixed in-person & virtual students in our class.”

Funded Dec 31, 2020Your donations have been a really supportive to our learning. The students are excited and are using online tools to learn about robotics & coding during distance learning. I also sent home a small science tools bag so they have a few science tools to use during distance learning. They always love to play with magnets (not near their electronics) and the wires and bulbs to see if they can light it up. Teaching science with real items is key to excite and teach them about circuits. Your donations are really helping me get them some hands-on materials for my class & our school.”

Funded Jan 30, 2012You would not believe how much the computer has done for our special education class! The kids and I celebrated when it arrived! It is the first time we have been able to get on-line right from our classroom (older I Macs too old / not enough ram).
This year my 5th graders had to do their first IB Exhibition project, and having our own computer in our classroom has been invaluable. The students have been able to research their topics, find appropriate, non-copyrighted pictures and in the end use their school Alpha-smarts to upload their writing onto the computer you gave us â to edit and publish their reports. We would not have been able to support this exciting, but challenging culminating project without the use of a newer computer in our classroom. It allowed me, and my aids, to be able to support our students in an individual project, while we still taught our other two sped grade levels (3&4).
Thanks for supporting students, teachers and our schools! ”

Funded Jan 18, 2019Wow, you are wonderful in helping us get the technology we needed to work on our IB Exhibition project. My fifth grade sped / DHH students are already doing research and keeping notes on their new tablets. These tablets will help them communicate with their Exhibition Mentors as well as me, their teacher. I installed the See Saw application, which our school uses to communicate with their mentors, that allows them to save their links and work. My fifth graders are using the Pads 2-3 days a week.
My fourth and fifth graders have also benefited from the Samsung tablets in supporting their reading learning using our classes Raz Kids application. We are fortunate to have this application to work on reading decoding as well as comprehension. The lower level readers are motivated by the different supports and scaffolds, and have already completed a reading level using these tablets to support their learning.
Technology like this really supports a special education classroom. We are constantly working on meeting our student's individual needs. The students that are catching on to a skill can then work independently to practice their skills using technology. It is a great motivation tool for their learning. It is truly a great gift to meet our individual needs to have these tablets ready in our special education classroom, and not just wait until the hour a week we can get the IPad cart. Again, having the flexibility of having our own technology is a great benefit to meeting our student's individual needs.”

Let's Do It! SPED Classroom Differentiated Instruction
Funded Dec 7, 2015Thank you so much for your support! We did it! Your generous donations and speed while the Matching Grant was available really made this happen for my students! We will be starting the second semester with new tech. because of you! Again many thanks!
With this support we will be able to access our school's and special education new / updated software for reading and math, to help meet my students' individual needs. The new computers / pads will help my students with motivation, and minimize their frustration which they were having when our old computers would not work with the newer technology.”

Funded Jan 31, 2012Wow what a year! We just had our final afterschool science & gifted club last Thursday. The students were so excited by having more hands-on materials you helped get for us! After getting the grant we started with an introduction to rocket design with bottle / air rockets that we made ourselves from half inch PVC, bike tubes, and bottles. We are still waiting for the rockets we ordered (all other materials arrived), but I am working on getting information / requirements needed to set them off at school or at the park next to us. We will be ready for when they come! I also have a science / rocket expert who said he can come and work with the afterschool club as well. In the mean time, we have been enjoying the other items especially the electric circuit / snap kits!!! The students have asked to use them almost every week we meet! My class also enjoyed the snap electric kits as well when we were in our 4th grade physical science unit. Your site / support is a precious gift. Thank you Donors Choose and all of you for helping us get this grant! ”
