Thank you AGAIN! Now we have twice the amount of Orff xylophones and that means standards are learned in half the time! Beyond the impact on the music education of our students, I have witnessed something possible better.

There are many students that struggle to focus long enough to learn tough topics. These particular students often wander around my room without constant redirection. These particular students tap on all objects to investigate the sound (even if they should be listening). These particular students are typically tough to teach... until now.

The students that just a week prior to receiving these instruments were completely uninterested and non-compliant, literally ALL of these students described above were amazed at these xylophones. I watched them wait until appropriate times to tap, sit still when it was time, and even help others learn what they had learned! It was a complete turn around.

So when I say thank you, I mean it! You have helped engage some of the students I thought would never become engaged. You have made my job just a little bit easier and much more fun. You have certainly made an impact!”

    With gratitude,

    Mr. Johnson

  • Turn It Up, Up, Up!

    Funded May 31, 2017

Thank you for helping expand our music program! Our chorus and music program continues to grow, and these speakers are going to help us reach out to our community. We have not had much time to utilize them yet, but we already have a major project coming up in November and they will be essential!

As a school, we rarely host outdoor events, because of lack of volume control. Thanks to these speakers, my colleagues and I are planning a unique Veterans' Day Program outside of our school. Many students will be performing and hopefully many Veterans will also attend. This will be the first of many community events made possible with the addition of our speakers.

My administrators, fellow teachers, and students are all excited about our future! I am excited about the added potential you have given us. You have definitely help us Turn It Up!!”

    With gratitude,

    Mr. Johnson

Factory Shoals Elementary and our students are very thankful to you for this opportunity to grow and strengthen our program! My administrators, fellow teachers, parents, and students have all been impressed by how my classroom has shifted since this set of xylophones came in. Students have been able to gain a much more hands on experience with learning to read and notate music.

It can be hard teaching students about reading music without giving them instruments to associate with specific pitches. My favorite part of the first week with the xylophones was when students composed their own rhythms! This is the first time that I've seen and heard them actually understand how to compose.

This has changed the game for us! This was a huge step in the growth of our program. I will continue to push for more instruments and enhancements to my classroom. As you could tell, this was an expensive project and FSES could've never afforded it. Thank you for helping us!!”

    With gratitude,

    Mr. Johnson

Factory Shoals Elementary has a fairly new building, but the family-like atmosphere has been a Factory Shoals tradition for many years. Positioned about 25 minutes west of Atlanta, we serve a diverse population of students with heritage from around the globe. We are a Title I school; and we tend to be a fairly transient school as well. With all of that being said, I am working very hard to build a program. I meet with each homeroom once a week. Our school system is known for great elementary music. We now have 2 extra-curricular ensembles: a 2nd & 3rd Grade preparatory chorus and a 4th & 5th Grade chorus. I have hopes of future instrumental ensembles, musical productions, and public performances for all groups.
