The SciTech band seeks to serve our community outside of school, but we also strive to make the strongest connections to each individual within our band. Constructing a community involves creating a safe space, hosting events accessible for all students, building mentorship programs, and most importantly, celebrating and acknowledging student accomplishments. Through these events, we are able to create stability - something that some of our students do not have at home. These community-building activities make our students feel valued and appreciated.
These items like paper, sheets, clips, tablecloths will make events possible that will impact students’ personal growth for a lifetime. We host various events for our students to include band fun night, leadership team meetings, mentoring through music, and our end of the year band banquet. Band Fun nights provide a chance for students of all levels to mingle and bond through a communal activity such as a fun movie, Jenga tournaments, and other like activities. Our leadership team meets twice a month to discuss/plan upcoming performances and the maintenance of our program, and to grow as individual leaders and musicians through these discussions and other team-building activities that are held. Our Mentoring Through Music program reaches students within our school, and the local elementary and middle school programs. The end of the year band banquet allows for reflection on the past year, next year announcements, and most importantly, individual student recognition for their accomplishments throughout the year. Our students feel valued, appreciated, and recognized when we are able to showcase them in such a manner.
