  • Gloves, Soap, and Wipes Rock Our Anatomy World!

    Funded Aug 31, 2023

You truly have no idea how much your donation has impacted my students for this current school year. I am so excited to provide the equipment needed for their lab stations, ensuring successful dissections for ALL my students throughout the year.

My anatomy classes just completed their first dissection of the year a few weeks ago - a sheep brain dissection for our nervous system unit! I cannot even begin to explain how wonderful it was to have new materials and safety gear for them to use. Life is a lot easier in our classroom when we aren't searching for the necessary materials to have during our dissections or clean up afterwards. The entire class runs smoother when our lab stations are fully stocked and it truly helps with classroom procedures when there are enough materials at each lab station for every student to utilize.

I am extremely humbled by your generosity and kindness! Thank you again for supporting our classroom. My students would not be as successful and my classroom would not be as fun without help from donors like you!”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Schwab

  • Empty Lab Stations Need Love, Too!

    Funded Aug 24, 2022

My anatomy classes just completed their first dissection of the second semester and I cannot even begin to explain how wonderful it was to have a plentiful supply of gloves and wipes for them to use. Trying to keep up with the gloves/wipes needed for 4-5 anatomy classes each with 30-35 students has proven to be a diffcult task. Prior to COVID, my classroom was decently stocked with these supplies... but many of my unopened boxes of gloves and unopened wipes were donted to local clinics to help during the PPE shortage. I have been struggling to restock these lab stations (even after asking for parent help with these supplies) over the last few years.

Our dissections total to 10 classes worth of these materials being used - which adds up quickly! Being able to present this year's classes with fully-stocked lab stations was a dream come true. Every student has glove options that fit them, and there are plenty of wipes to keep surfaces santized and clean after the completion of our dissections. I am beyond grateful to our donors for providing us with our lab station supplies. You have absolutely no idea the impact you've made on my students and our classroom!”

  • Toolin' Around in Anatomy!

    Funded Sep 8, 2022

My anatomy classes just completed their first dissection of the second semester and I cannot even begin to explain how wonderful it was to have new materials for them to use. I've taught anatomy for 9 years, and that's hundreds of students utilizing these tools throughout the years. These tools get damaged and worn out with time... and trying to keep up with 11 lab stations worth of tools has proven difficult. Being able to present this year's classes with top of the line instruments even further elevates the impact that our activities have on the students. Every hands-on activity requires that students be very attentive, especially activities at the level of our dissections. The new tools allowed our students to focus more on the material, and less about whether or not their tools would break trying to complete the task. Our next unit in human anatomy covers the circulatory system, and my students will be using all of our new tools to dissect a sheep's heart... with a kidney dissection to follow for our urinary system unit. I am beyond grateful to our donors for providing us with our new equipment. You have absolutely no idea the impact you've made on my students and our classroom!”

  • Experiencing Human Anatomy in a Virtuali-Tee.

    Funded Aug 26, 2019

Thank you so much for your generous donation of the Virtuali-tees. They have been an incredible supplemental learning tool for my anatomy classes. When the students first tried them out, their faces were priceless! They could not believe their eyes when they used the app on the phone and school iPads and saw that their classmates' bodies were showing interactive organs! It was such a fun day!

Although COVID restrictions kept us from using them for all the systems they offer, we did have an incredible time exploring the skeletal and cardiovascular systems with these amazing t-shirts. Who would've ever thought t-shirts could be so fun? Dr. Glover (the interactive hand tool) guided the students through these systems, even giving them an inside look of blood vessels and showing them red blood cells up close!

I appreciate your generosity more than I could ever tell you. Materials made possible by your donations help keep the imaginations and curiosity of our students alive and well each day!”

    With gratitude,

  • Here's Looking at You, Cells!

    Funded Apr 24, 2018

It has been decades since our school has seen new microscopes in the science department. For years, we have struggled with missing microscope parts and non-working lenses that have kept us from truly unlocking the magic of the world of cells and tissues. Your donation of these microscopes have changed my classroom forever.

In just the last 2 weeks alone, my anatomy students have been able to clearly see the images of cells that comprise epithelial, connective, nervous, and muscle tissues of the human body. This opportunity has enabled them to better understand the world of histology as we build the foundation for our year-long work with human anatomy. My biology students learned correct microscope technique and staining procedures with these new microscopes, technique that will be utilized throughout the year and into Advanced Placement life science courses during their junior and senior years. These new microscopes have truly set the tone for a successful school year.

My students and I cannot thank you enough for your generous donation. You have guaranteed their better understanding and success in biology and anatomy this year, as well as that of my future students for years to come. I am humbled by your donation and commitment to creating improved educational opportunities for my students.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Schwab

  • The Right Tools for the Complete Anatomy Experience.

    Funded Aug 9, 2017

My anatomy classes just completed their first dissection of the year and I cannot even begin to explain how wonderful it was to have new materials for them to use. In previous years, my students used tools and equipment that was rusted, damaged, etc. Being able to present this year's classes with top of the line instruments even further elevates the effect that our activities have on the students. Every hands-on activity requires that students be very attentive, especially activities at the level of our dissections. The new tools allowed our students to focus more on the material, and less about whether or not their tools would break trying to complete the task. Our next unit in human anatomy covers the nervous system and special senses, and my students will be using all of our new tools to dissect a sheep's brain and a cow's eye. I am beyond grateful to our donors for providing us with our new equipment.”

There's not another school like Lafayette, and for that I am very grateful. Our school building is the oldest functioning school building in the area, and our student population of 2400+ students is beautifully diverse. My students come from hard-working, middle class families. Many of them have dreams of attending college, and many of my anatomy students are hoping to pursue a degree in the medical field when they graduate. My hope is to help guide them along the way to pursuing their educational goals. I begin each year with the same message to my students - "I'm not here to make you love science, but I am here to help you appreciate it."
