Enriched, school cultural experiences that promote the value of shared humanity propel our scholars’ attitude and motivation to engage in instructional practices, pro-social behaviors, and improve their school attendance - Our Game Plan for Success (GPS) is a school-wide positive behavior support framework that systematize our efforts to enable scholars to adapt positive character traits, humility, and high regards for self and others. In conjunction with our social-emotional learning standards, teachers and staff teach and model self-awareness, self-management, growth mindset, social-awareness, and relationship building using restorative justice community circles, mindfulness, meditation practices, and a host of related curricula such as FOCUS and Second-Step. Using a strengths based approach, we intend for our scholars to raise their efficacy and learn healthy ways to cope with dense barriers to learning like trauma and poverty. The charge to improve school culture and climate requires varying levels of prevention and intervention including equitable practices (shared humanity), enriched exposure and activities, and predictable, safe routines. Our Game Plan for Success leverages space for us to do just that! Aside from the scope and sequence of our social-emotional learning instruction, there are four school-wide events that make up our Game Plan for Success - Harvest Festival, Winter Wonderland, Spring Bling, and June Boom. Our scholars are taught and encouraged to earn participation in these traditions and celebrations of learning, wellness, and school attendance. You're contribution will stretch far into our journey of revolutionizing the context of our school culture such that our scholars will collectively embody the skills to improve their academic standing, and social-emotional state of being.
