  • Keep Calm and Practice Tennis

    Funded May 30, 2017

Wow! Our girls tennis team was so excited to hear that we had been fully funded! What a great surprise! Thank you so much for your donation of a new tennis ball machine and tennis balls.

The machine and tennis balls will be a great addition to our town's court renovations! We are elated to have new equipment to use there! Your donation will allow us to hone and perfect our skills and stay competitive with our conference.

Thank you again for your generous donation - it has been a great, positive end to our school year and we cannot wait to put it to use once our season starts up! We appreciate it!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Schneider

  • Makerspaces in the Art Room

    Funded Jul 22, 2017

We were so excited to hear our Makerspaces project was funded. Art is such an important part of our lives and we are always trying to find ways to make it new and innovative. So many schools promote STEM activities and units - but we try to promote STEAM! We thank you for allowing us to promote STEAM in the art classroom. We will use the button maker and Perler beads to unleash our creativity. The LittleBits kit can be used for making our art projects move and light up, but also to explore our engineering talents. We have some older Legos in our classroom, but the new Lego set will be a great addition! We can take on some STEAM challenges that we have found or we can creatively build with them.

We cannot wait to get started with our new supplies. Budgets are tight in schools and your generous donation has allowed us to get supplies we may have not otherwise been able to afford. We cannot thank you enough. We appreciate you!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Schneider

  • Slicing Through Art!

    Funded Apr 28, 2017

Thank you so much for your donation of Slice Cutters for my art classroom. From the moment we received word that we had gotten funded, the kids were excited for new tools!

Our classroom makeup is very diverse - we have several Somali students as well as Hispanic students, low and middle income families, and mixed family backgrounds. We often get new students who have never created art before. Safety for these and all students is a top priority.

We have Xacto knives that are several years old, the blades fall out, and they are not holding up anymore. The new Slice knives that you donated money for will provide my students with safer, smaller, and sharper blades. These craft knives will make our collage and cutting work easier!

Thank you again for your generous donation - it has been a great, positive end to our school year! We appreciate it!”

    Mrs. Schneider

  • The Art of Writing

    Funded May 9, 2017

Thank you so much for your donation of calligraphy pens and ink for my art room. From the moment I told them we received our funding for the pens, the kids had been asking daily about them! They could not wait to try them out!

Our classroom makeup is very diverse - we have several Somali students as well as Hispanic students, low and middle income families, and mixed family backgrounds. To see my students value writing as art and combining history and writing in one art project is rewarding for all of us. Our district is considered high poverty, and these kids don't always have access to nice, new art supplies. Your gift allows them to try things with writing, fonts, and pens that they see in advertisements, online, and in class discussions.

Art students appreciated the pens! Thank you again for your generous donation - it has been a great, positive end to our school year!”

  • Wreck This...Art Room?!

    Funded Dec 29, 2016

Thank you so much for your donation of Wreck This Journal books for my art room. From the moment I told students I was attempting to get funded for this (we were lucky enough to receive funding last year for a similar project), the kids had been asking daily about them! They could not wait to begin. I don't think I have ever had an art project/unit where the anticipation was so high!

Our classroom makeup is very diverse - we have several Somali students as well as Hispanic students, low and middle income families, and mixed family backgrounds. To see my students value this project and begin to understand how art and expression are more than colored pencils or paint on paper has been exciting to watch. Our district is considered high poverty, and these kids don't always have art supplies (even pencils) at home, so to send them with an art journal that requires unique but everyday supplies has been a great gift to them. They appreciate it more than you or I will ever know.

In class, we have discussed what it means to create something, how we feel when we see a blank page or canvas, what happens when we get creative block, and what it means to keep a journal. Happenstance and gumption were also discussed at the suggestion of the author's website. Art students were amazing with these journals! They were journaling, writing, drawing, creating, and problem solving. It really was amazing to watch. Thank you again for your generous donation - it has been a great, positive addition to our school year!”

  • Moving, Learning, Creating!

    Funded Sep 2, 2016

Thank you so much for your donation to my Moving, Learning, Creating project for my art room. From the moment we received word that we had gotten funded, the kids were ecstatic! They couldn't wait to try out the new alternative seating!

Once the stools arrived, I couldn't unbox them fast enough. Kids rush to get to art so they can try them out. They are perfect for strengthening our core muscles and have been great for our balance, too. My students have discovered they are very lightweight and durable, too - which has been really nice for moving from the discussion/learning portion of our room to the creating side. All students are able to move them.

The Hokki stools have been amazing for our wigglers! The kids that used to rock on our four legged stools and chairs now use the Hokki stools and safely move. I teach my students that when they are doodling during lessons, they are actually engaging their minds and paying attention. We have found the stools have a similar result! Today, I looked out at my class while they were watching a short introductory video and saw kids wiggling - but yet very engaged! Thank you again for your generous donation - it has been a great, positive addition to my class!”

  • Let's Get Moving!

    Funded Sep 2, 2016

Thank you so much for your donation to my Let's Get Moving project for my art room and school. From the moment we received word that we had gotten funded, the kids were ecstatic! They couldn't wait to get their hands on new playground equipment and a few Hokki stools to use in the art room while we work.

Our classroom makeup is very diverse - we have several Somali students as well as Hispanic students, low and middle income families, and mixed family backgrounds. To see our middle school students working and playing together on our playground is one of my favorite things about recess. The kids have also found ways to use some of the equipment inside during homeroom time and on rainy days. The Hokki stools have been a hit for alternative seating in my classroom - they can't wait to get to class to use them!

We plan to install the Frisbee golf goal this fall yet - student council kids, our maintenance department, administration, and staff have been working together to find a great placement for this. Thank you again for your generous donation - it has been a great, positive end to our school year!”

I have introduced the author, Keri Smith, to them through discussion and an open letter she has on her website. I have also been in contact with her and she has been great with responding with help and suggestions for my students. We have discussed what it means to create something, how we feel when we see a blank page or canvas, what happens when we get creative block, and what it means to keep a journal.
