  • Role Playing and Creative Materials for Our Students

    Funded Dec 30, 2021

Students come to our library with hope and aspirations. Students can leave with beautiful art of their creation thanks to you. The library is a fun and exciting place where students feel welcomed. This is largely to do with their voices being heard. Students wanted to make jewelry, your generous gift will give that to them.

The joy I've witnessed with students creating this year has gone above and beyond what I've experienced in the past. This is largely due to art projects during Library Class with materials students can take home. It will surprise no one that I do not have a "bead" or "sticker" budget. It is through Donors Choose that our awesome students get to choose art. Students are creating with pride so here is my new ask. Simply, let's give students beads, stickers, and fun games to bring as much as joy as possible to schools (and school libraries). Everyone deserves to feel proud, everyone deserves to create. Also, note that creating and wearing jewelry creating does not fall under old fashion gender roles, it transcends what we once believed to be true and that is also amazing.

Students learning interpersonal skills with role playing activities. When play with spaceships, they are astronauts; beads, they become artists. Our children can achieve their dreams and you have helped them visualize it!

Thank you so much for giving! Let's keep it up and allow or students to have the very best! They deserve it!”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Rae

  • A Place To Read

    Funded Oct 16, 2021

Students use their new couch everyday. Our library is certainly a busy place, yet books always come first. Students have their weekly opportunity to choose any book they want. Our lucky students then have our new wonderful couch to relax at and read their new exciting books. At our school, we pride ourselves for purchasing books that represent our diverse student body in engaging and fun stories. Students love coming to the library each week.

Your generous gift helped our library be at its most welcoming for all of our students. Having a place to read supports our students to have a strong sense of belonging and pride in their school, their library, and their reading.

Thank you for giving students a place to read. While you may never meet them in person, please know how appreciative they are and I am for your generosity.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Rae

  • We Need Diverse Books: Now More than Ever

    Funded Jul 14, 2020

Libraries need diverse books. Our students no longer should feel like others when they browse the shelves. Your donation helped our students feel belonging and represented in the books that they choose to read. Representation is important and support creating windows and doors for our students to see themselves as creators, authors, inventors, and good friends/community members.

Thank you for giving. You didn't have to, but you did. With every book that made a child smile, hope, and dream you supported our present and our future.”

  • Student-Selected Diverse, Engaging, and Spanish Books

    Funded Jun 13, 2020

Thank you so much for giving to our students. Giving to our school to purchase more diverse books support all of our students. Representation is critical when developing a habitual love of reading.  Diverse books do not only support our students of color, they support everyone with a sense of antiracism, empathy, and call to action.  Normalizing books with diverse characters is one step towards supporting all of our students.  Thank you for supporting our students.”

  • Let's Build Robots!

    Funded Jan 1, 2020

Thank you for giving funds so our incredible students can build more robots. When students move from consuming to creating they become empowered future-ready citizens ready to help construct a new world. These materials will help students realize that they can create, build, and make. Through the creation process, students develop skills that will can take with them the rest of their lives. You have given children the opportunity and chance to be successful in a non-traditional way. Every child deserves to have success and I know that our students will not forgot the feeling, hard work, and leadership that goes along with creating robots.

Thank you for giving and caring to these young minds.”

  • Comfortable Library Seating

    Funded Oct 2, 2019

Our students adore their new seating.  Students cheered and ran to thier new seating when it came in. They have never had such fancy furniture!  I've notice more students wanting to quietly read in our new section. In fact, we made the area a silently reading area, thus furthering encouraging reading!

Students have been taking care of our new furniture.  They care about their things and it important that their library looks nice. Donors like you help our space grow to an area where students are happy, safe, secure, and feel a deep sense of belonging.  Our students deserve nice things.  Thank you for supporting our students and their reading!”

  • We Need Diverse Books (2)

    Funded Jun 18, 2019

Thank you for giving us books that represent our student population. The books give students windows and doors. When they see successful people who look like them, it can inspire the children to work towards their dreams. Diverse books support empathy and open connections among people of different backgrounds and identities. Children were so excited to see themselves in stories in these new books. The goal is that diverse books will be common in all our libraries. You helped us work towards that ultimate goal. Your support gives our students greater chances to succeed. Thank you.”

  • We Need Diverse Books

    Funded May 11, 2019

You gave my students diverse books to read. Representation in books supports students' ability to see themselves as readers and scholars. These incredible books represent the students' culture, history, and identity.

We display books in the library. Now when students look at our displays, they will see children that look like them. Representation in books help children dream and see into their future. If they see authors and illustrators that look like them, they can believe that they can become whatever they desire.

Students of color see themselves represented with pride in the books. One student wrote that these books helped her "Black pride." A white student wrote that "everyone needs to feel celebrated in the books we read." The goal is to increase the number of diverse books in our library so truly reflect our student population. You are helping us reach our goal.”

  • Students as Creators: Stop Motion

    Funded Nov 29, 2018

Thank you very much for giving our students the opportunity to create videos. Since we have received the stop motion products, our students have soared. Students are coming into the Library excited to learn and create. Students leave with the knowledge that they have created a video and are excited to continue the practice during their next Library class. Students also come in at recess to create additional videos.

The app we use, "Stop Motion" is free and easy to use. Students enjoy exploring the options within the app to create special effects and fun components. We use book stands and Dictionaries to hold the iPads in place. I also bought green trifolds to use as green screens. Students enjoy using the mini-figures to role play realistic and fantastical stories. Some of the stories students have created revolved around weddings, space invasions, and Superheroes. I save their videos in a Google Drive folder I created so they can jump back to their stories on any iPad at any time.

Students are most excited about telling their stories. These technology tools gives students choice and voice in their learning. This makes learning more actives and less passive. Students are in charge of their presentations and ideas. Students can take this learning and become video creators. This activity just might ignite our amazing students to use video and animation to share their voice with the world.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Rae

Creating stop motion videos supports students creativity and gives them an authentic audience of whom to share their ideas. Stop motion videos support students in the beginning of the writing process as story starters and at the end to make their writing come alive. Students will use the iPads, along with free stop motion apps, to create their stories. Students will use their Legos as stop motion stands and as characters. The Lego characters also support students' role playing and empathy skills. I am requesting two iPads and Legos characters and blocks for my students. Students learn more when they can truly create. Stop motion video gives students a chance to move from pen and paper towards film making. As the librarian, I would make this a kit and teach it to students in grades K-5. Students of all elementary grades can learn and grow while creating videos.
