The media we consume makes an impact, and the cartoons children watch are formative. I've always considered animation and storytelling to be an amazing language and communication tool. Now, in a time where representation and communication is paramount, I make it my responsibility to give my kids the tools to not just be adept but successful in these skills. These tablets will give students the opportunity to explore and present their own stories and truths to an audience of their peers and community. This will be accomplished through various animation projects, digital drawing and painting activities, as well as digital portfolio building for students to carry through their art education career. If there is something I wish I had as an art student, it would be proof of my progress over the years to bulk up my college portfolio. The advantage of developing skills and experiences in working digitally are exponential. Costs of materials are minimized, ability to share and reproduce content is maximized, and the early introduction to industry standard tools and technology is priceless. The children I serve are often underestimated, and they face more challenges in their daily lives than I ever have. I know they have things to say, stories to tell, and lessons to teach us all. I want to elevate and support the next Matthew Cherry to create the next "Hair Love." I want to give the power to the next Ian-Jones Quartey to make the next "O.K. K.O." I want to give my students the confidence and skills to create the next "Craig of the Creek." If every voice matters and every life counts, then this is the least that I can do to make sure that my kids are a part of that "Every voice. Every life. Every student.
