  • We're Ready to Learn

    Funded Aug 6, 2022

Thank you again for your generous donation to my classroom! The students were thrilled when we received our new table and students were even more enthusiastic when they had the opportunity to sit at the table with me in a small group. I am able to work closely with 4-6 kids at a time on all kinds of skills and the best part about it is the students get a chance to work collaboratively. They enjoy listening to one another's ideas and benefit from the diverse perspectives that their classmates bring to the group. It is truly peer learning at its finest!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Calhoun

  • Kindergarteners are Sharp!!

    Funded Oct 9, 2018

Words cannot express how deeply grateful I am to you for your generous contributions. You have had a tremendous impact on my students. They are working with independence and materials are readily available to them at all times thanks to you.

We now have sharpened pencils daily to write with. I never have to hear a student complain about a dull point because we are able to sharpen pencils by the dozens at one time. Every pencil caddy is full!

Lastly, our room is now complete and beautifully decorated with appropriate labels for all the baskets. The paper cutter has allowed me to easily measure out the labels.

I hope you love the pictures of our room!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Calhoun

  • Learning in Kinderspace!

    Funded Oct 5, 2017

Words cannot express how deeply grateful I am to you for supporting our class project! Many of you, as adults, use technology on a daily basis. I imagine it has made your life easier in numerous of ways. Well, having tablets in the classroom as had a similar impact on my five-year old students! It has made reading both fun and easier to navigate in the classroom by taking the guesswork of choosing "Just-Right" text and literacy tasks.

My students are navigating through the different programs I have downloaded onto their tablets with ease. All it takes are a few simple taps and a swipe of their fingers to find books, stories, and literacy games. They are able to work at their own pace and have found a new level of independence while doing so.

The use of tablets have been particularly instrumental for my visual learners. They are constantly engaged by the vivid colors, and enhanced audio that using a tablet provides. Now, I am able to vary tasks for students and keep them engaged in reading and wanting to learn more!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Calhoun

  • Class Size Matters!

    Funded Sep 14, 2014

Words cannot express the excitement that the students and I felt when we saw our Donors Choose materials pouring in. All of the kids said, "I want a privacy board!" When they saw the magnetic clip holders with all the beautiful colors they couldn't wait for me to hang them on the bulletin board. The wooden passes were also a major hit in the classroom. The students take pride in all the materials we received and they are doing their very best to take care of everything!

You should know that the magnetic clip holders are being used to beautifully display our latest Social Studies work. The magnets are so sturdy they're holding up large poster boards and even foam boards. I wish you could see the students using their privacy boards. They look like focused CEO's at work!

Your generosity has helped boost my teaching and has had a major impact on students' learning. The students are signing out when they leave the room and are making sure to take a pass with them when they leave. This is major school policy. More importantly, the students are behaving more responsibly when leaving the room. With the privacy boards I am now able to work with small groups of children within the classroom without the other students becoming distracted. They are able to block out what's going on around them and maintain their focus. The privacy boards also make assessment time easier. Your contributions have helped us greatly!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Calhoun

  • Everyone and Everything Needs a Place to Call Home

    Funded Jan 11, 2013

This is just a small token of my gratitude for your generous donation to my classroom. The materials that you donated have helped my students greatly. We now enjoy a beautiful, colorful, new carpet in which every students has a spot designated just for them. The students feel more comfortable, less crowded, and seem to be more attentive during lessons. In addition to the carpet, the storage unit and binders were a big hit in our classroom! Each student now has a personal binder to store all of their important work.

Your contributions have helped to enhance the community feeling in our classroom, and has increased student pride and independence in school.

Without donors like you, thousands of classrooms in the United States would go without.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Calhoun

  • You Got To Move It Move It

    Funded Sep 14, 2010

Thank you again for your generous donation. You have allowed me to bring life, energy, and creativity into my classroom. My students absolutely love our fitness breaks each day. In addition, they are learning new skills, such as yoga, balance, and are now more respectful of each others personal space. Most important, your donation has given my class the opportunity to learn about the significance of physical fitness and nutrition at an early age in life.

I appreciate your gift and so do my students and their parents.

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Calhoun

My students range in ages between 6-7 years old. Overall, they are smart, energetic, creative Second graders in a public school in New York City. My students exhibit their intelligence in different ways. Very few of them enjoy sitting in their seat reading, writing, or completing Math assignments for long periods at a time. They show more enthusiasm when they are moving around, socializing with a partner, or when they are engaged in activities that require them to work cooperatively. They are also very hard-working and deserve breaks throughout the day to stabilize their creative juices as well as let out a little energy.
