My school is a charter school in Connecticut. We have a dual mission- technology and character development. Our students are held to the same standards as all public schools; we follow the Common Core State Standards, we take the same standardized tests. However, we strive to maintain the fun and creativity in learning. Our school is funded directly by the state, and we are given less money per student than the public school average. Despite that, we have closed the achievement gap on our state tests and we proudly have a school with approximately 50% minority students. The teachers are dedicated and passionate. They put the best interests of the students above all else. My students are incredible. They are kind, compassionate, and respectful. They are enthusiastic learners. They are musicians, athletes, and writers. They are resilient. They are leaders.
