He Named Me Malala
Funded Sep 8, 2015On behalf of our students, we are sincerely grateful that people like you exist that make learning through media enjoyable. We live in a global society where our students should have multiple opportunities to connect and learn from peers near their ages. Girls and boys were disillusioned about the advantages of receiving an appropriate and gender-free education in the United States. The discussions were rich and full of questions that motivated my students to seek answers outside of class. They also provided thought-provoking strategies to solve educational issues in other countries. Thank you for supporting our students' learning.”

Selma - American History
Funded Feb 18, 2015I provide instruction to a wide range of learning who are often reluctant to read or learn about historical events in any form. The student population at my school is eighty -two percent Hispanic and Latino Americas. Selma provided the background knowledge my students needed to capture their interest into American historical events that they were unfamiliar with.
Because you provided my students with an opportunity to see the movie Selma, many of them returned to the class eager to read and learn about events such Warriors Don't Cry and marches that have provided them and their families with equal rights. During the movie students were attentive. On the bus ride home, students shared their thoughts and asked questions about events and situations in the movie they didn't understand. After our class discussion, my students wrote about their learning from the movie Selma and how brutal the fight for equal rights was and still continues to be because of immigration, according to my students.
On behalf of my students, please accept our sincere gratitude for selecting us for such an rewarding learning experience that will never be forgotten.”

Amari's Arrival
Funded Jun 3, 2013On behalf of my students, I want to say thank you for investing in their education. My students are always overwhelmed that people that don't know them are concerned about what and how they learn. Amari's Arrival demonstrates that same type of care that I want my students to understand on a personal level. With recent budget cuts to education, providing my students with enriching learning materials has been a struggle. Thanks for making a difference in how my students perceive school and learning.”

Back to School Flygirl
Funded Aug 10, 2013My students look forward to receiving materials that are purchased by donors who are concerned about them and their learning. Currently my students are reading Flygirl in social groups and creating posters and newspaper articles
about what it was like to be the first African American girl to pilot an aircraft. Students will share what they learned during a class gallery walk. This project will boost my teaching and students' learning because it provides us with exposure to high interest complex reading materials that will increase reading comprehension and critical thinking skills.”

Planting the Seeds of Tolerance
Funded Mar 10, 2010We hope that you enjoy the gardens that we are sending you as our sincere thanks for your gracious donation of books. My students enjoyed reading and having thought-provoking conversations about the characters in Seedfolks and was able to share in their growth from chapter to chapter. I believe because of this set of novels and interactive conversations, that my students gained a deeper appreciation for the diversity of this classroom and the community they live in. On behalf of my class, I continue to be excited about people who are concerned about my students' learning. Thanks for caring.

Who Am I Without Him?
Funded Dec 30, 2009I thank you on behalf of my 7th grade students for the donation of novels, Who Am I Without Him? to our class. While reading this novel, my students shared their experiences with one another and learned much about respecting themselves, others and how relationships can get out of hand quickly. During the reading of this book, my students developed safety rules to keep themselves safe in friendships and created posters aimed at decreasing the rate of domestic violence world wide. My students were mesmerized and alarmed with some of the story, but still thought this novel should be required reading beginning in the 7th grade and continuing into high school. Thanks for all that you do. Your gift was well appreciated. ”

Laughter is in the Air
Funded Jan 7, 2010It is an awesome opportunity to publicly thank both of you for the wonderful gift of books that you generously donated to my students. It is without a doubt that my students will remember this act of kindness for generations to come. They have enjoyed reading and sharing these books with their parents, siblings and peers. Struggling and once reluctant students anxiously waited to read the next book in the series and the books are continuing to fly off the shelf as this letter is being written. I thank you for thinking of us and on behalf of my students, thank you so very much.

Have You Discovered the Secret to Make People Laugh?
Funded Oct 31, 2009My students and I would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to all that supported this proposal. My vision is that students learn to take risk and learn in ways that interest them. Using multiple copies of Diary of a Wimpy kid provided my students with many hours of engaging reading and discussions in an atmosphere of laughter and enjoyment. Most impressive is that students conducted their own book talks and encouraged others to read what they were reading and eagerly waited to exchange their books for the next in line. Thanks to you all and the Donorschoose Organization, my reluctant readers read and exchanged books with their peers without being encouraged to do so. I appreciate the kindness you have shared with my students. Thanks again for this great gift.”

Who Am I Without Him 2?
Funded Oct 1, 2009On behalf of my students, I extend a heartfelt thanks to each of you for your kind and thoughtful donations Because of you all, my students now know that people are concerned about their education and them personally.
Who Am I Without Him? had plenty of teen-age topics to discuss and learn from. I'm sure my students will remember the contents of this book for years to come and also consider it good reading material for their own children. One student wrote that this novel should be required reading for all 7th grade students. I agree and plan to incorporate this novel into my yearly teaching curriculum. This novel motivated my students to discuss issues beyond male and female but how people should be treated in general.
Please know that Who Am I Without Him? stimulated my students' thinking and helped them to make connects to their own lives. Through sharing experiences my students made discoveries about how they want to be treated and verbally stated that love isn't supposed to be violent. Since reading this novel, I have witnessed my students interacting in positive ways often. Again, thank you all for enhancing the lives of my students by making this novel available for them to read.
