Tools and Parts
Funded Aug 8, 2021Thank you for sending me one last delivery of goodies. I'm going to use the static mat and tool kit to begin repair of some chromebooks and PCs so that all students at our school have working devices to begin their year.
The cables and adapters will ensure that our teachers can connect all of their devices and tools, so the students will have a more seamless learning experience.
I am overwhelmed by the support of my friends and family, community partners, anonymous donors, groups, and businesses. It makes me feel like public education is still valued. Thank you.”
With gratitude,
Mrs. Hannah

Funded May 25, 2021Our students are astounded that they have games to play during their lunch period. Mental health is such an important aspect of education that often gets overlooked. I am so proud that we have community partners and anonymous benefactors that want our students to have an avenue to let off steam and have a little fun.
It is fun to watch the students walk into the office and see all of the new ladder boards and cornhole boards and balls and nets that we have available this year. One student said, "Is that for us?" I was happy to tel him that it absolutely was for him. Thank you so much.”

Funded May 4, 2021Right now, I have a huge stack of Chromebook charges on my desk. Students and teachers, alike, have wanted to know if they can have one because so many chargers have been lost or damaged this year. Once I explained that these chargers were sent to us by generous donors at DonorsChoose.org, there was noticeable thankfulness displayed by the group. I think this year, and the difficulties we've faced as a school team, have made us appreciate kindness even more.
Knowing that we have replacements for what has been lost or damaged gives us hope that we will emerge successfully from this pandemic and these trying times. Thank you for caring about the simple things and helping us stay supplied. There really aren't enough words to thank our donors! The best things I can think to say are "Yay!" and "Thank You!"”

Funded May 4, 2021All of these outdoor recreational supplies were delivered today and my students went nuts! They couldn't believe that anonymous people would purchase things for them. They wanted to play RIGHT NOW and they are High School kids! I am so appreciative that my donors care about the emotional, physical, and social well-being of my students as well as their academic status.
Now, they realize that they can ask for specific items and maybe they will be provided. It was so uplifting for me to see them so excited at the end of the school year. Who knew that a few balls a nets would mean so much? Thank you.”

Funded Apr 21, 2021Thank you for helping my transition from a paper/pencil classroom to a digital classroom go smoothly. Many people out in our communities don't really understand HOW we are doing school with our digital resources. Basically, everything I would have done on paper in previous years is now on the computer. For example, in my history classes we routinely watch a documentary and take notes on things that students think are interesting or seem important. In the past, I would have shown the video in class and had the students get out a pen and paper to take the notes. Now, I still show the video in class, but the students take their notes on a digital forms that is automatically sent to me for grading. It is more work for the teach in the beginning, but it eliminates lost papers, and helps us keep track of missing work easily. If students are absent, the assignment is available to them digitally to make up at home or during their study hall time.
The only problem with this method is having a battery on a device die during class. Each device comes with one charger that we sent home with our students. Having extra chargers in the classroom helps because they don't have to stop what they are doing - they can just plug in and keep going. Until we can convince device manufacturers to include 2 chargers - I'll keep hoping for help from generous donors like you. Thanks for coming thru for us!”

Funded Feb 19, 2021Thank you so much for donating the locking wheels for me to install in my large book shelves and cabinets. I got one set installed on the bookshelf by my door and we've already used it to block the door during our ALICE active-shooter drill. Having the wheels on the shelves give me and my students an added sense of security that we will be able to block doors and windows as needed, yet still be able to move them quickly if we have an opportunity to evacuate. We've installed new batteries in our flashlights and lamps, and have the posters laminated and ready to put up after testing. Thank you so much for supporting our classroom.”

Funded Jan 18, 2021Thank you so much for providing all the little attachments that I need to make my classroom run smoothly. I've been using an old chromebook to project my lessons because I didn't have an adapter to hook my new one up to the projector. Just this week, my old chromebook started to have some issues. Thankfully, I got the new adapter and can switch devices without any interruption to the class.
Several students have been bringing their own devices to school, but don't have adapters to attach earbuds or a mouse and these new tools have solved those problems. It's the little things that make such a big difference.
I appreciate your donations. To some, these things may seem like items of low cost but they have a huge impact in my classroom!”

Mrs. Hannah
Touching the Trade Route
Funded Aug 22, 2020As I have expressed before, this year is a new breed of school year. As a social studies teacher, I prefer to show my students as many maps, timelines, pictures, videos, etc as I can to help them grasp the reality of whatever we are talking about at a particular time. COVID has forced us to shift our practices in the classroom.
Going completely digital has created some hardships and frustrations. Sharing paper maps and items is no longer recommended and I thought it would be hard to get the same experience using the computer. This new Samsung Chromebook is awesome for several reasons. 1). My students can use the stylus to continue to take handwritten notes. For many, it is much more productive than typing. 2). My students can track and highlight things on the map, again using the stylus or touchscreen. It's actually better than using the paper map, because they can make their own notes right on the screen that get saved to their personal drive. 3). Taking quizzes and tests is so much easier in tablet mode. There is no track pad to use, which causes some of my learners much frustration. The Google Form even grades itself and gives immediate feedback to the student.
My students are excited and engaged, and I am appreciative of the shortcuts that come with having this multi-format Chromebook. Thank you, donors, for making my life and the experience of my students better.”

Funded Dec 28, 2020This school year has been a challenge in many ways. At first, we were concerned about how we were going to get a device of the hands of each student. That problem was remedied. Then, we were concerned about teaching the students how to complete and turn in work with the devices. That problem was remedied - in fact, they learned quicker that we did! Now, we're concerned with how to make the digital process more hassle-free and with less frustration.
Your donation has allowed us to take a big step in that direction. Already, just hours after opening the boxes, my students have plugged in a mouse and are completing their work at twice the speed. DonorsChoose and people like my donors are truly making a difference in the lives of teachers and students.
Thank you so much for helping my students, my school, and me. Your support means more than you will ever realize!”
With gratitude,
Mrs. Hannah
