I teach adaptive art in 5 different Fulton County elementary schools. My students are all in self-contained classrooms and range from pre-k to 5th grade. I have 5 autism classes, 6 intellectual disability classes, 2 special education pre-k classes, and 1 kindergarten special education class. I believe FULLY that every single one of my students is capable. Art is such an amazing way to give these students another way to express themselves, as well as learn the same curriculum as their general education peers. As said in our mission statement, "Adaptive Art seeks to provide the art curriculum using techniques and tools addressing the learning styles of exceptional students. Both communication approaches and art making methods are geared to meet the needs of exceptional learners. We seek to both teach and inspire our classes to greater educational levels through art." I am so grateful to get to do what I do.
