My Inclusion Class Needs Technology and Supplies for Success!
Funded Aug 16, 2016I feel so lucky to have such amazing friends, family and donors that truly value education. I think that we have to be creative these days in order to access all that we can for our kids and their future. Donors Choose is an amazing vehicle for this. Your very thoughtful and generous donation has allowed me to start this project that has benefited my class of 20 this year, but will continue to benefit my future students as well. This impact is truly immeasurable.
We now have new chromebooks, grade level set of Scholastic News and materials like chart paper, art supplies and student supplies to make student learning and teacher preparation easier! The Scholastic News magazine have been a highly engaging way to increase my students reading comprehension in a fun and exciting way. Because I have ordered two levels of Scholastic News every student in my class has access to the reading! They are reading about current events and then writing about them. With the chromebooks and headphones, I am able to now show videos to my students that benefit them in all aspects of the curriculum. For example, in reading I have my level 1 English Language Learners read Scholastic News in Spanish, then they watch a video in English about the topic and then read the same article in English. They are able to have the magazine read aloud to them with the chromebooks. It is amazing! When they are finished they are able to write complete sentences in English about what they read. They are so excited to learn this way because they are learning about the same content as their peers but in a different way.
During reading and math I am able to have students working on the chromebooks during center activities. They are either using Lexia to work on their reading and comprehension, or practicing their math with Khan Academy. They love having the dry erase boards to show their work. The students are extremely engaged and excited to learn in a different way when I am not able to work with their groups.
It is amazing to have the materials I need right away. To have chart paper that sticks to the wall without needing tape definitely cuts down on my time and ability to get my students ideas hung up and showcased. The fact that I have art materials easily accessible is awesome. The students have all the crayons, markers, and colored pencils necessary to tackle any art project. The classroom sets that I was able to get from Donors Choose are super helpful. I have all the materials i need for my students to be engaged and excited to learn.
The students in my class are thrilled to be able to learn something in a different way. Many of my students are English Language Learners so being able to show them pictures and videos of the vocabulary and concepts we are learning is essential to their ability to learn and understand English. This has definitely motivated my struggling readers and struggling math students to feel like they can read more complex books like their peers and be successful in math. Scholastic News has given the students common topics to talk about. We are constantly referring back to articles we have read because so many of them supported our unit on Human Rights. It was nice having the information right there and current so the students were able to see that what they read is important.
I definitely have noticed that my students' motivation to learn new concepts has increased when I use the technology that has been generously donated from Donor Choose. It's more exciting and it seems like the concepts are more relevant to them. The added technology has definitely changed how I teach!
I truly cannot express how grateful my students and I are to have participated in this project. I can spend more time working with my students instead of pulling resources together because I lack the technology and materials to make the curriculum accessible to all my students. I sincerely thank you!”

Grade 5 Students Need Materials to Start Year Off Strong!
Funded Sep 2, 2015I feel so lucky to have such amazing friends, family and donors that truly value education.
My students now have a color laser printer, lap top storage unit, a large sized laminator and materials like ink and laminating sheets to support these items. These materials helped to start my year off extremely strong! I am able to have the resources I need at my fingertips. For example, we just finished writing cause and effect essays. My students were able to type out their reports and I was able to quickly print them out. They were so excited to see their work. This was something I was unable to do in the past because I did not have access to a printer.
The laminator has made preserving their work extremely easy. In math, students laminated two multiplication strategies that were successful for them. They were excited to "own" these strategies by decorating a card with them on it, which was then laminated. They now have this card in their math toolkit to pull out whenever they need it. The laminator has also made it easier for me to give my students resources like number charts, and multiplication tables that can travel with them from home to school without getting damaged.
The laptop storage unit has helped me to better manage the technology that I have received from previous DC projects. I am able to roll out the laptops more efficiently and make sure that those laptops are charged and ready to use.
It is amazing to have the materials I need right away without having to run to the store and buy them myself. I am constantly creating anchor charts with my students and being able to laminate those posters is such a help and time saver for the next year when I need them. I am now able to spend more time working with students then recreating the wheel!
The students in my class are thrilled to be able to print out their published work from the computer and laminate the work they have done that has helped them learn and better grasp the concepts I am teaching them.
I definitely have noticed that my students' motivation to learn new concepts has increased when I use the materials that have been generously donated from Donors Choose. It's more exciting and it seems like the concepts are more relevant to them. The added materials have definitely changed how I teach!
I truly cannot express how grateful my students and I are to have participated in this project. I can spend more time working with my students instead of pulling resources together because I lack the resources to make the curriculum accessible and engaging to all my students. I sincerely thank you!”

It is amazing to have the materials I need right away without having to borrow or drag my own vacuum in to school. My students love reading and working with his/her partners on the rug and because I have the ability to vacuum it daily they can always do so. The overall environment of my classroom is clean and inviting!

I am so proud of my classroom this year. A day doesn't go by that either a student or another teacher tells me how great my classroom is. When you walk into my classroom, you are immediately drawn to the bright colors of the rug and the different organizational bins that keep materials in place. I have received so many neat organizing tools and materials that are benefiting my students greatly.
My students are so excited to come together on our amazing rug, which is of the United States. I can actually fit my entire class on it, which is great.
One of my student's favorite things is the behind the chair storage bags. They all have blue bags that go over their chairs. They are able to organize their materials without them always falling out of their desks. My students are able to keep track of their things which is amazing and a huge time saver.
My English Language Learners have also really benefited from the different materials in the project. We have tons of great vocabulary cards, close reading passages, an amazing listening center, and a library of books on CD.
I definitely have noticed that my students' motivation to learn new concepts has increased when I use the materials that have been generously donated from Donors Choose. Technology Needed in Urban School
Funded Jul 31, 2014I feel so lucky to have such amazing friends, family and donors that truly value education. Your very thoughtful and generous donation has allowed me to start this project that has benefited my class of 21 this year, but will continue to benefit my future students as well. My students now have a document camera, two IPads, and three laptops in the classroom that we are using daily. With the document camera, I am able to now project the work they are doing at their desks on the board. For example, in math when students are finished with an assignment I can have them put their papers on the document camera and they can show their work. So much time is saved because students do not have to redo their work.
The document camera has been my most used piece of technology from Donors Choose. I use it at least 2-3 times a day. Sometimes I will show the students different math strategies on the overhead, or have them write their own and explain them. Also, the overhead allows me to go over different pieces of writing and various reading texts so I am able to have the whole class follow along. It has really helped all my students access the curriculum, especially my visual learners!
The students in my class are thrilled to be able to learn something in a different way. The majority of my students are all English Language Learners so being able to show them the worksheets, pictures, and videos of the vocabulary and concepts we are learning is essential to their ability to learn and understand English.
The IPads and laptops have been invaluable to my classroom this year. I am able to have my students who have an ELD level 1-3 access a variety of texts and genres that they wouldn't have been able to read if they were not able to listen and follow along with different on-line reading programs. It has also helped my struggling readers by allowing them to follow along with a more difficult text. Also, I am able to have heterogeneous book groups because I can assign students with various levels to a text based on interest and not by reading level. This has definitely motivated my struggling readers to feel like they can read more complex books like their peers.

Laptops for Success!
Funded Oct 9, 2013I feel so lucky to have such amazing friends, family and donors that truly value education. Your very thoughtful and generous donation has allowed me to start this project that has benefited my class of 19 this year, but will continue to benefit my future students as well. This year I am teaching a Sheltered English Immersion Hybrid Class. Within my class of 19,I have students who have varying levels of English language development from little to no English to being a fluent English speaker. Because of budget cutbacks I do not have a paraprofessional in my class assisting me, nor do my students receive ESL support. Before I received the laptops from Donors Choose, I was struggling with how I would reach all students during reading.
The laptops made it possible for me to reach all my students. I am able to cycle groups of students on various on-line reading programs during reading when I am not able to meet with them. My newcomers use a program that reads the stories aloud to them and then quizzes them on their comprehension. I am able to view how they are doing and adjust their reading level based on their performance on the quizzes. When I am not able to work with them, I am confident that they are learning and progressing in their English language development.
The laptops have been invaluable to my classroom. They not only benefit my newcomers, but all of the students in not only reading, but also math and writing. Students are able to utilize different math programs during the day as well as type reports. One of my students struggles with Dysgraphia and being able to use the laptops on every writing assignment has improved not only the quality of his work, but his confidence.
I definitely have noticed that my students' motivation to learn has increased when I use the technology that has been generously donated from Donor Chose. It's more exciting and it seems like the concepts are more relevant to them. The added technology has definitely changed how I teach!

My students now have an Infocus machine, Overhead Projector and Listening Center in the classroom that we are using daily. With the Infocus Machine, I am able to now show videos to my students that benefit them in all aspects of the curriculum. For example, in math I showed three different videos to the students about rounding with decimals. They had to choose the video that had the most efficient rounding strategy. They really learned so much from seeing these videos and what they learned stayed with them. Today, I showed my students a rap about World War 2 in order to give them background information on a story we were reading in class. They were so excited and learned so much about something they had never heard of before.
The Overhead Projector has been my most used piece of technology from Donors Chose. I use it at least 2-3 times a day.
