My students are amazing. While we're still getting to know each other, it is clear they have a passion for learning and a need for new reading materials. They come from poverty stricken families, many of whom move from house to house within the town during the year. School is their stable place, and I strive to be the best teacher I can to them. I want to inspire them through my own love of reading by sharing books with a deeper message, while still building upon the high-interest/popular section of the classroom library. The students have little access to reading materials at home, which means that school is their primary access to resources vital for a successful future. Delving into reading is a way to build upon imagination, and inspire students that anything is possible. My students live in an isolated area, so bringing more books that celebrate diversity in family structure and culture is key to educating them about the world in which we live.
