  • Students with Autism Need Technology to Communicate

    Thank you again for your generous donations! Having these new pieces of technology in our classroom has helped us tremendously. We love being able to access different programs with our kindle set, including programs that strengthen math and language arts skills in a fun and interactive way, as well as providing reinforcement for completing other, more challenging tasks. One of my students asks every day, "Ms. Sarah, snowman please!" He is referring to the snowman game on the star fall.com website, and now that we have enough devices to access the internet, he is able to access it once he completes his work.

    Our projector has helped us by letting us project images in a bigger, bolder way than we were able to before. We have a bolder, more interactive morning meeting each morning, where my students engage and interact with the material. One of our favorite parts has been singing along and dancing with the "100 song" to practice counting to 100 for the 100th day of school last week.

    These are two great examples of how the technology from this project has helped our class while we wait for the rest of our tech to come in. Thank you so much for your support of my students and my classroom! We truly appreciate you.”

My students are turning 5 and 5 year old boys and girls diagnosed with Autism or other developmental disabilities. Some of them have never been to school before. Many of them are non-verbal. All of them have tons of energy and sensory needs! They are bright, ready to learn and need healthy, functional ways to get out that energy and meet their sensory needs so that they can grow and meet their potential. They love to jump and run and dance and we need safe materials to be able to integrate movement into our academic work and keep our kids' joy safe. We especially love the baby shark song! Our school is brand new and we lack many of the tools that we need for our students, most of whom come from poor backgrounds.
