  • Developing Media Literacy Skills

    Funded Apr 28, 2017

Thank you for funding my project, Developing Media Literacy Skills. There is something about playing a game that makes learning even more fun! Students learn and process information, and they associate it with a good time and friendly competition. This card mat can be used for so many different types of games; from story creation to learning new vocabulary. This card mat is a great way to review text features and the definitions of new words. Thank you for supporting education. We appreciate you!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Fuentes

  • Media Literacy Is Important

    Funded Apr 27, 2017

Play-Doh Touch Shape to Life Studio is definitely an engaging tool! It still amazes me that students can create a figure with Play-Doh and then see it come to life on the screen before them. Being able to decipher nonfiction text is critical for today's students. They are expected to have half of their reading material as nonfiction, and these texts have a lot of special features. The National Geographic readers are perfect. Each reader has all the elements of nonfiction reading and my students are able to apply the media literacy skills we talk about to these texts. Thank you for supporting education. We appreciate you!”

  • Solar Energy is For Me

    Funded Feb 21, 2017

When our futons arrived, my students cheered. Little did I know that these would quickly become a favorite spot for students. My students can often be seen using the futons as a meeting place to put their heads together and collaborate. I have had many students thank me for bringing these into our classroom and know that they will be a great place for minds to meet for many years to come. My students also enjoy the robots. The robots have inspired them to create doodles of their own robots and wonder about what new and creative ways we can use robots in the future. We appreciate your generous support of education. Thank you for making a difference in our learning.”

  • Alternative Energy in Action

    Funded Mar 6, 2017

The title of this project says it all, Alternative Energy in Action. Through these resources my students are able to make connections between making a positive change in the world and incorporating robotics. They are questioning our resources and trying to think of ways that we can use renewable resources, such as wind or salt water, to make a positive change in our community. Thank you for providing my students with these resources and for supporting education. We appreciate the positive difference you have made in our learning this year.”

  • On Your Mark, Get Set, Go!

    Funded Mar 13, 2017

Go Your Mar. Get Set. Go! is a wonderful project to implement in the classroom. My students love having the big timers and are coming up with many uses for them. The displays on the timers are so large that it is very easy to watch the clock keep track of the time. Being able to make their own robot is helpful. My students are talking about the different things they can do and are inspired by the world of robotics. Thank you for bringing these resources to my students and for supporting education. We appreciate you!”

  • Continuing To Read With Me, An Environmental Challenge

    Funded Jan 23, 2017

When we got together with our second grade friends, there were squeals of delight! Both grades loved having the opportunity to read together. As I walked around, I heard some great discussions. Some kids were talking about how a squirrel stores food, others were talking about how a bee makes honey, and others were sharing laughter over a good story. This is such a wonderful project to implement because it allows my students to be mentors to the younger students. My students are able to help guide reading when their buddy is stuck as well as start conversations about the book. We really appreciate you Tom's of Maine!”

  • Exploring with Jimu Robots

    Funded Jan 23, 2017

Tom's of Maine, thank you again for supporting Exploring with Jimu Robots. Jimu is so much fun and he is very versatile. There are endless possibilities of how students can connect the pieces. My students are not only able to build the 6 versions of Jimu, but they are attaching pieces in their own way. This helps them see ways to repurpose the same materials. They love being able to take pictures of the process and instantly add them to their notes. We appreciate your generosity and I can't wait to see the out of the box thinking that Jimu inspires. You are making a difference in our learning!”

  • Standing And Learning Is For Me!

    Funded Jan 23, 2017

I am sure that you can tell from the smiles on the faces that my students, that they are thrilled our project, Standing and Learning for Me! was funded. I can't thank you enough Tom's of Maine for helping transform my classroom. My students love having a dedicated work space where they can collaborate and engage in solving scientific problems. These desks have quickly become the work space of choice and my students have asked me to write an additional project! We appreciate your support of education and are looking forward to working our school's environmental issues at these desks.”

  • Standing and Learning Together

    Funded Jan 23, 2017

Once our custodian brought the standing desks into the classroom, my students cheered. These standing desks are such a fantastic addition to our classroom! My students love having a place to gather and to work on projects. The desks have quickly become the most popular gathering and working spot in the room. I can't wait to see what else my students produce at these workstations. We appreciate your continuous support of environmental awareness and education. You have made a positive difference in our learning this year!”

  • Bouncing Through The Day

    Funded Sep 23, 2016

Having a full class set of bouncy bands is AMAZING! Bouncy bands stretch across the backside of a student desk and students are able to move their legs and feet without disturbing their neighbors. My students love the ability to move through out the day and I love that their bodies are getting what they need to that they can focus on our learning. The portable sound systems are a lot of fun and really get my students dancing. The kids love the lights and being able to hear music around the building. Thank you for making a difference in our school year. We appreciate your generous donation to our classroom!”

I teach an exciting, motivated, and creative group of fifth grade students. They love technology and art and are eager to use both content areas as extensions of our core curricular work. They work hard to collaborate so they can share the limited technology and art materials that we have. My students need more opportunities to create, as they are currently limited by both a lack of supplies and time. Anytime I can incorporate art, my students are engaged, motivated to learn, and inspired to create.
