  • Our School Family Scrapbook

    Funded Dec 17, 2024

We are well on our way to completing our school scrapbooks. Each of my 50 students has their own books filled with their photos taken at the various school events. Events that I would like to highlight for this month include the Valentine's Dance, Black History Gallery walk and evolution of black history music at our February student of the month ceremony.

With these images, students have the opportunity to learn about mixed media collage in the theme of scrapbooking. They are able to practice skills such as working with a paper punch, stamping, and layering or overlapping materials thanks to your generosity and support!”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Sara

  • Our School Family Scrapbook Spreads Kindness

    Funded Nov 13, 2024

I am thrilled to inform you that my students have received the supplies need to complete our school family scrapbook project! We have been busy collaging the scrapbook materials and combing mixed media like ink, distressing spray, paint and marker. They use these pages of collage showcasing their photographs. These books are cherished by our students and staff. They look back on their school events and assignments with delight. Thanks to your generosity and support our students with disabilities have access to art with a literacy connection.”

  • Social Emotional Learning Materials

    Funded Oct 8, 2024

The school year is off to a great start thanks to your generous donation. I have 6 classes this year. At our school we have 4 different classroom ratios for our self-contained students with disabilities. Our students are among the most vulnerable population. Some medically fragile, some wheelchair bound, many students have emerging literacy and communication skills. Many utilize communication devices such as AAC devices. In addition, many have physical and occupational therapy needs. My students with Autism especially have sensory needs.

The adaptive art supplies that your generous support have afforded my students the ability to access art curriculum while having their needs met.

    Thank you for your support!”

  • Adaptive Art Supplies for Students With Disabilities

    Funded Jul 16, 2024

Wow! What a fantastic summer school session and start to the new school year we have had thanks to your generous support in giving my students the tools they need to succeed.

With the materials such as musical instruments now my students with disabilities have accessible tools to participate in art lessons. Many of whom are wheelchair bound and need a great deal of support and scaffolding to hold a pencil for example. Due to their needs these adaptive art supplies allow them to have an outlet for self expression and this is a truly empowering experience.”

  • Autobiographical Comics

    Funded Apr 25, 2024

Summer school is in full swing and the materials provided by your generous donations are being utilized. So not only did your donation benefit my students during this school year but we have been able to carry them into the summer session.

Our lesson today was a social emotional learning lesson focused on creating an ocean habitat in a bottle. All week long we worked on self portraits and using art as a means of expressing emotions. Today, we are relaxing listening to ocean sounds and creating ocean friends for students with sensory needs.”

  • Photography Work Study Program

    Funded Dec 29, 2023

During the week leading up to our winter recess, my students and I set up a photography portrait studio. Other students from around the school had the opportunity to have their holiday portrait taken. After their picture was taken, my students and I printed out their photograph so that it can be taken home and shared. A similar experience was recreated during our Career Fair in January. Except this time, our students received professional style headshots for their resume.

This was an invaluable experience for my students to gain professional photography work study experience. It was also so important for our school wide student body to be able to have portraits taken of them by their peers! This also helped the larger school community by allowing the school to have up to date photos of all of our students. We can use these images for a variety of needs for the school and for safety reasons, we now have photos of every student at our main site. This is all thanks to your generosity and support.”

  • New Books for our Photography Classroom

    Funded Nov 27, 2023

As I write this my students are enjoying the small classroom library that was added to the art photography room, all thanks to your generous donation and support. We are forever grateful for what you have done to make this possible.

Some of these books include Linda Barry's book about comic book making. With these books we were able to start a new unit of creating autobiofictional comic books. All of my students have super hero names and stories that not only empower them but give them a new outlet for self-expression and strengthen their voice to share their own unique stories.

Thank you for making this possible.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Sara
