What is an English classroom without books? As August rolls around and the students begin to filter in, the first thing they are curious about, besides how much homework you are about to give, is the books they will be spending time reading. Old titles, new titles, red titles, blue titles, what will students be reading this year? Well, that's up to you! Passionate, understanding, and caring readers turn into adults who have learned from the characters or stories they have read. Diverse books show students that each individual is unique and helps them be able to recognize society's individual differences. These differences can be along the dimensions of race, ethnicity, gender, sexual orientation, socio-economic status, age, physical abilities, religious beliefs, or political beliefs. This is what our students' mindsets are all about.
