My students are 85% low income, second language learners who experience most of life from television, You Tube or Netflix. In my fourth grade GATE classroom in Anaheim, CA, I try to introduce my students to experiences through discovery and adventure in reading. We are a Technology school with a STEAM foundation. These 10 year olds are eager and excited with every new experience I launch them into. My scholars are also wonderfully gifted, yet behind their peers in other areas simply because their families do not have the same resources or opportunities to experience field trips and other hands on experiences as the rest of Orange County, CA.
