I'm a 1st grade teacher in a Title 1 school within a high poverty-stricken community. The majority of families and our students are from Haiti. English is not the first language. They have taught me how to speak Creole. They want to learn so much and are truly eager students. I am new to this state but bring with me many years of common core experience to get our future graduates ready now for their future . My grade is the foundation, the building blocks of knowledge and education. Once a strong foundation has been built, the rest is easier to build upon.
