  • Identity Celebration Library

    Funded Nov 29, 2023

Wow thank you for funding this project. I am thrilled to put this library together for our student affinity groups and appreciate your investment in our students. I will send pictures when we receive the materials and start building the library. I look forward to our students reading stories that reflect, represent and celebrate their identities!”

    With gratitude,

  • Yoga Calm Counseling Groups

    Funded Apr 27, 2015

Thank you all for donating to my Donor's Choose Project. We have many great things started this school year using the materials your donations made possible. A number of students who have trouble sitting still in class and focusing now have alternative seating, wobble cushions and yoga balls, and all the teachers rave at the impact it has on their focus! Of course the students love the special tools they've been given and I've had a number comment on how much easier having a wiggly seat makes it to stay on track in class.

In addition, I'm running two Yoga Calm groups, one with 1st and 2nd graders, and one with 3rd graders. Having yoga mats for each student makes the space so welcoming. They love using the Hoberman's Spheres to practice deep breathing and many have taken that technique out of our small group and shown their whole class.

Finally, I'm teaching Yoga Calm in all our 4th grade classes and they are so excited every time I come in. The teacher really appreciate the strategies the students are learning to get the whole class focused or calmed down. The student's are taking it to heart and I've seen a few kids using the techniques on their own.

I have one story I'd like to share. During a long assembly, all of the students were sitting on the hard gym floor. One of the students who has been in Yoga Calm and using a seat wobble, was having a VERY hard time sitting still during the assembly on the hard floor. He was laying down, rolling around, and sliding all over. I noticed him and made eye contact and used our hand signal to take a deep breath. He immediately jumped up and stood in the back of the auditorium in tree pose for the rest of the assembly. It was amazing to watch such a wiggly kid be able to focus and hold still for such an extended amount of time!

I can really tell the strategies I'm putting in place, thanks to your donations, are making a huge difference in many of our classes and impacting the whole school. Thank you for your support!”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Carranza
