As an educator in today 's society, we are tasked with the responsibility of producing 21st century learners that will be our future thinkers and innovators. My students thrive on hands-on learning, however the opportunities are often limited due to a lack of resources. Classroom and library maker spaces instill, creativity, critical thinking, collaboration, and problem solving to enhance the learning of a standards-based curriculum.
"Building Creativity One Block at a Time", will allow my students to use Lego's to actively engage in creating products that allow them to take ownership of their learning! Lego creations can by used not only in my classroom, but others as well. This can be the foundation for which a maker space can be built upon. Lessons such as a STEM Challenge, practical math application such as perimeter and area, story line or character recreation, descriptive writing, replication of historical events and inventions, and science concepts such as force and motion are just the beginning to extend their learning. I teach children with a wide range of intellectual levels. Putting manipulative such as these legos in their hands will allow them to visually reinforce their learning. Teaching science and social studies with Legos's would allow my students to understand the various types of simple machines and their importance, recreate species and indetify their functions, create new species with genetic variations, and provide a visual representation of past historical events. Lego's can help enrich the learning process and produce thinkers for years to come.
