  • A Place to Grow! A Place to Learn!

    Funded Aug 24, 2024

Thank you again for your support . You have provided many resources to allow my students the opportunity to grow as readers as well as make their learning environment comfortable for learning to happen .

The carpets are such an amazing touch of color and comfort to our classroom. The students love to go to the carpets and lay around and do their work. It makes them feel like they are at home.

The decorate books are organized by different skills. Each time I introduce a new skill in phonics students have the opportunity to try it out in their reading my used the books. They love the books. The books target their strengths and area of growth. The students like the pictures in each book.

I think the biggest impact is that the students are so proud of themselves for being able to read. These decodable books is the first step of their forever reading.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Yunusi

  • Let's Hop Back From Our Remote Learning!

    Funded Sep 23, 2021

Before I begin I would like to take this time to tell all the people that donated to my project, THANK YOU ALL SO MUCH. When my students started to see the boxes just flow into our classroom they were so excited. One child even said, "Our stuff is here, Yes!" I began to open the boxes and showed them all the materials and explained to them how they will use it throughout the year. They could not wait to use them.

The little writing boards are used during the ELA and math Center Times.

In ELA students practice writing lowercase letters or sight words they have learned. Then they show what they wrote on the board to their partner and their partner has to say the letter and sound or the sight word . This helps them with writing letters so they can begin writing latter in the year.

During math center time students use the little writing boards to write down numbers after they role a dice and count the dots. This helps them practice counting and writing numbers . Later in the year they will create and write number sentences on the boards.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Yunusi

  • Help Mini Humans Learn on Mini iPads!

    Funded Oct 22, 2018

I'd like to update you on the wonderful impact you've had in our classroom with your generous donation. We received the ipads and immediately put them to good use. After downloading reading and math applications the kids were split up into groups and started using their new classroom technology. Students can chose from a selection of books based on their interests and listen to the audio version while reading along. There is also a selection of math games and science applications that we use to learn important concepts and lessons. The ipads aid in each student working on their own individualized lesson for a set period during the day before we all regroup as a class.

The students love that they can chose different games to help them learn a topic. For example, each child has a range of applications they can chose from to learn addition, subtraction, multiplication etc. Their favorite part about the addition of this new technology to our classroom is that they feel more engaged and present in their learning process. This not only encourages them to learn but helps them to be excited to learn as well. Nothing fills me with joy more than seeing them so engulfed and so attentive as they use their new tools to understand important concepts. As we've used this technology I've seen students learn and retain concepts more fully than before.

Some children hadn't ever used an ipad before and spent some time familiarizing themselves with how to use their new learning tool. Technology is all around us now and it's easy to take for granted how amazing it all is. That being said it was almost mesmerizing watching the some children being exposed to an ipad for the first time. They took to it like pros and in no time they were listening to their stories, reading along, doing math and even suggesting new learning applications we can add to the ipads.

Children who previously were reluctant to participate in math lessons or were intimidated by reading started gaining new confidence that they displayed throughout the day. It was amazing seeing so many of the children come out of their shell and become more active participants due to the help of this amazing technology.

All of these achievements and new found skills and self confidence is what your donation has provided and so much more! Your generosity has helped set up our students for success this year and for years to come. My students and I would like to thank you again for thinking of us. No words can really express the impact you've had on their education, self confidence and their overall joy with their academic day.”

  • Jump into the Digital World!

    Funded Oct 11, 2018

I am very excited to share with you all the wonderful impact you've had by kindly funding this project. We received our iPads, cases and charging station. I downloaded and set up a ton of math games, science and reading apps. These iPads will provide an interactive educational experience. As each child can navigate their way through learning concepts at their own pace before we all regroup as a classroom and go over the concepts again. The iPads will allow self discovery of math, reading and science concepts that will be better ingrained in the children's memories.

Most of my students have never had the opportunity to interact with technology at home. Therefore, for a lot of them, this was their first experience with any kind of technology. They were so excited to use the touch screen and very eager to discover the applications that had been downloaded. This made learning both interactive and fun. The kids had a great time first discovering how to control the iPads and this puts them at an advantage as knowing how to use technology is incredibly important in our current time.

The way the children were so immersed in the learning process was something that brought a smile to my face and I hope it brings one to yours as well. Again, we can't thank you all enough for giving these students every opportunity to succeed and for making them so excited and happy to learn. There aren't enough words to describe the impact that you've had.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Yunusi

  • Basic Supplies and Learning Tools to Kick Off Our Learning!

    Funded Sep 22, 2018

We have received all the supplies you so generously provided us for our classroom. My students couldn't contain their excitement as the packages came in and we set up our classroom together and decided where everything was to be set up as a group. This helped us develop our team work and collaboration skills. We then discussed how we were going to best utilize our new equipment, from the laminator to the organization trolley.

We decided to put our new laminator to work right away. We printed reading material in big enough letters to make it easy to trace words with our fingers and read along in groups. We laminated these materials and got to work learning how to put sounds to letters and turn letters into words. We then laminated a few key concepts to follow just so we don't forget them as we go about our year (such as it's okay for us to need to reread something to understand it better, ask our partners for help and to not forget we have powers too like pointing when we read so we don't lose our place). These concepts and rules of thumb were hung around our classroom where they're sure to stay for the entire year thanks to the laminating power you so generously provided for us.

To aid in our newfound reading materials, we printed out worksheets that correspond with our newly laminated words. My students helped organize these worksheets in our organization trolley and as we go through the worksheets, they know exactly where to find their next assignment which fosters independence. Your generous contribution to our classroom not only helped us organize our learning material but also helped us learn how to organize!

These are just a few of the things you as a donor have helped us do this year, we haven't even begun to mention all the coloring, drawing and writing we can now do with the crayons, colored pencils and writing utensils you have so kindly provided for us. My students are grateful and so thankful that you have generously given them the basic supplies they need to succeed and excel this school year. We can't say thank you enough!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Yunusi

My classroom consists of 24 highly motivated and eager to learn kindergartners. My students range in level of abilities and our main focus is to get everyone on the same track for the first grade. Some of my students can't make any sounds of the alphabet and some of my students are already reading. We have a very accepting and diverse group of students. In addition to different skill levels, my students also range in the level of need they require to succeed. Some get literacy enhancement while others utilize our speech and counseling services at the school. We're a school where 100% of our children qualify for free lunch. My students are incredibly caring to each other regardless of need or background. The children support their classmates in everything they do and I'm privileged to be able to support them and watch their kindness and care for each other and the community grow each day.
