Educational Games for Engagement
Funded Apr 16, 2019Thank you so much for your donation. The educational games were successful in motivating my students to learn in a more accessible way. They have also been used as a reward for completed work. They have strengthened reading skills and strategic thinking skills. They have also helped build social development skills when working in teams.
I am excited to utilize these games in this upcoming school year with my new 6th grade students. I have scheduled a time during the week for educational game use, and I have plans to start an after-school board game club.
Thank you for all your support!”

Area Rug for Learning
Funded May 14, 2019My students love the rug area. Last school year I created a schedule for each of them to have "rug time." During this time they were independently reading, finishing a writing project or using reading computer program. This area provides a space where they can be comfortable while being productive. When they first saw the rug, they were very excited about it. Once rules were set in place, they were able to utilize it properly and understand that it's an additional working area.
My new incoming class will learn how to appreciate and utilize it as well as my students last year did. I am very appreciative to have this space in my classroom!
Thank you!”

This classroom project was brought to life by Craig Newmark Philanthropies and 2 other donors.Let's Be Flexible!
Funded Oct 4, 2018My students love the flexible seating. They are now able to choose where they want to sit, and get energy out while remaining behind their desk. Students who weren't comfortable on the wobble stools have liked the option of using a regular chair, with the blue cushions that you helped us get. The bean bags are used for independent reading, or if a student has independent work to finish. They also love how colorful the classroom now is.
The first reactions that the students had when I told them about the project being funded, was gratitude. They were so thankful that I had thought of their comfort in class and created a project in attempt to make them more comfortable at school. When the flexible seating came to the classroom, they were very excited to try it out. Each student was able to experiment with the different options and find the right fit for them.
The students are excited to go on winter break next week. When they get back, the class will jump right into Unit 3, which is all about non-fiction reading and writing. They will work together in small groups to do some research online. They will also each be creating a persuasive essay!”
