Get Outside! Connecting Science to the Great Outdoors
Funded Dec 1, 2010Please allow me to express my deep gratitude for your donations which made possible the purchase of soil and water testing equipment. You are truly opening doors for students by allowing them to take their studies to the field.
My students love having the opportunity to work outside. It is much easier to explain a concept when the students are able to DO the work instead of simply reading about it. Being able to reinforce classroom study with field work, data collection and lab work greatly increases the students' level of comprehension.
Using the collection net, students have been able to collect and observe microorganisms that we have previously been unable to observe from fresh water sources. The students were so excited with this discovery! They have also been analyzing the soil conditions at various locations and discussing ways to improve soil quality.
I can't thank you enough for the opportunities that you have given to my students. We will enjoy these items for years to come. ”

Funded Jan 11, 2010I would like to take the opportunity to thank you for your generous donation in support of science education. The supplies that were provided by your donations have been used by more than 150 students this year and will be used for years to come.
The students get so excited about working in the lab and it is so much more meaningful to them when they are able to put their hands on the equipment and do things for themselves. Having several portable balances make it much more practical to allow the students to weigh things at their lab tables and the beakers are useful for almost every lab that we do.
As a teacher, it is so valuable to have the resources that I need to allow my students to learn by doing. Thank you again for your support. ”
With gratitude,
Mrs. Sadoski

Funded Nov 14, 2009I cannot thank you enough for your generosity. The students absolutely loved working with the electrophoresis equipment. It was wonderful for every student to have the chance to use the technology.
Students truly learn best by doing and seeing. They were able to pour their own gels, load DNA, watch as the DNA traveled across the gel during electrophoresis and then stain the gels. The experiment they conducted was to determine who committed a crime by analyzing the results of DNA separation. They loved being crime scene investigators and had great success with their results.
I have also used this equipment with younger students. They are learning techniques that will give them greater success as they take advanced science courses. We are also now equipped to do an entire unit on forensics. These topics are very appealing to my students and it is wonderful to see them get excited about learning.
Thank you again for your commitment to science education.”

Funded Sep 4, 2009I wanted to express my deep appreciation for your generous donation to my classroom. Having the ELMO has changed the structure of our class. I can now demonstrate appropriate microscope focusing techniques so that the students can understand what it is they are supposed to see. Their microscopy skills have improved immensely and they are always amazed when what they thought was a colored blob comes sharply into focus. I am also able to perform demonstrations under the ELMO and allow each student in the room to get a bird's eye view.
The students love using the ELMO in class. From completing diagrams to making presentations to viewing printed resources, it gives the students an opportunity to become active participants in the learning process. An unexpected benefit is that it has greatly reduced the number of copies I make.
I am appreciative of your generosity and commitment to education and what this means to my students. Not only do they have a new technological resource, they also are touched and inspired that people who do not know us are willing to contribute to their educational success. Thank you.”

Funded Sep 3, 2009I wanted to express my appreciation for your commitment to science education. Because of your generous donation, my microscope lab now has a complete set of slides. When the supplies first arrived at my school, the students took an entire lab period looking at them, comparing structures, asking questions and making new discoveries. The students loved it and they were all engaged in learning because their curiosity was piqued.
We continue to use these slides in every unit of study. We recently compared and contrasted prokaryotic and eukaryotic cells and plant and animal cells. The kids understand so much more when they see it than just by hearing it or reading it from a book. This week, we will use the slides again as we look at photosynthetic organisms.
I cannot thank you enough for what you have done for my students and therefore what you have done for me. As a teacher, nothing gives a greater sense of satisfaction than a student learning because they want to. Thank you for providing the motivation!”
With gratitude,
Mrs. Sadoski
