  • Hands-On Engagement

    Funded Aug 9, 2019

This project helped fund tools to help students with literacy, inquiry, and creativity in hands-on ways. From Reading Chips, Story Chips, Question-Making Dice, end of lesson wrap ups, and games like Scattergories, Bananagrams, and Brainspin. They assist in student centered learning with a hands-on aspect that encourage teamwork and divergent thinking. I am incredibly grateful for the donors who helped make this project a reality! My students appreciate your generosity as they grow as learners and thinkers.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Adams

  • Literacy Meets STEM

    Funded Aug 10, 2019

This project allowed me to put STEM through the lens of literacy in the hands of my students. They loved the non-fiction math and science topics! We have explored math by Greg Tang and science, architecture, and engineering by Andrea Beaty. It has led to inquiry and complex thinking. Best yet, is the fact that many of the materials include characters who match the demographics of my students. It is so nice that they could see characters like themselves. I am filled with gratitude for everyone who helped make this happen!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Adams

I split time between two low income schools providing services to 94 children in grades K-5 who need academic challenge, acceleration, and enrichment. While the majority of their classmates are at or below grade level, these students need opportunity to expand beyond typical Tier I instruction. In spite of many of the obstacles they have faced in their short lives, they are bursting with potential that needs nurturing. I want to add tools to supplement literacy and STEM topics for our highest level learners. I want to expose them to literature that features complex characters that look like them and share their interests.
