  • Let’s Find Out Together!

    Funded Oct 14, 2022

My kindergarteners have been thrilled to receive "Let's Find Out" magazines this year!! They love to pass out the "mail" each Friday.

The topics have been so engaging for these young readers! We have learned facts about everything from leprechauns to Abraham Lincoln. These texts not only expose my students to a variety of science and social studies, but they perfectly compliment our Reader's Workshop skills. We have been able to apply our knowledge about text features such as bold words, captions, and graphs while enjoying each week's topic!

One of their absolute favorite activities is searching for high frequency words and highlighting them in the magazines. They are then placed in our reading boxes to reread and treasure again and again.

Thank you once again for supporting our classroom and making our year of learning just a little more wonderful!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Westbrook

  • Flex Your Reading Muscles!

    Funded Oct 16, 2021

Thank you once again for supporting my kindergarten classroom! Sometimes the smallest details make the biggest difference, and that has been so true with our new wobble stool seating.

My students are so eager to have an opportunity to sit on one of our new wobble stools as thry gather at our "reading table" for small group instruction! (Parents even loved them when they too got to try them out during parent/teacher conferences!! Ha!)

I have witnessed my wiggliest learners be able to move their cores as they focused their attention on reading activities on the table. These have been such a wonderful addition to our classroom! Thank you again.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Westbrook

  • Sensory Bins Are Good for Our Brains!

    Funded Oct 17, 2021

Thank you once again for supporting learning in my kindergarten classroom!

My students have absolutely loved being able to choose the sensory bins that we created this year.

My favorite ones involved using the fall leaves and pumpkins to write sight words on. Students lived running their hands through the materials to search for the objects before recording the words the found on paper. What an awesome multisensory learning experience!

Being able to rotate the bin materials out throughout the year made our sensory bins constantly engaging and appealing! Thank you so much!”

  • Paint It, Squish It, Build It, Create It!

    Funded Dec 29, 2021

Thank you once again for supporting creativity in our classroom!

By helping us restock art materials in our classroom, you have helped provide my kindergarteners with numerous opportunities to expand their learning through art! One of our favorite activities this year was creating self portraits of ourselves in the "future" at the end of the year and then writing our future stories about future dreams and careers! The no-spill paint cups were a game changer for managing paint in the classroom!

Thank you so much for supporting this project. Kindergarteners love learning especially when they can squish it, paint it, build it, and create it!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Westbrook

  • Light Up Our Social and Emotional Skills

    Funded Apr 28, 2021

Thank you so much for providing this amazing resource for my kindergarteners!!

Our light table is used each and every day in our classroom as a center rotation. Students have already put it to good use by sorting objects by color, shape, and size on the light table. They have used it to practice creating a variety of patterns and shapes. As we are moving into counting skills and number recognition, students are ordering the colorful number pieces 1-10 and then counting out the appropriate number of objects from a variety of objects. This station is so engaging for my young learners!! By simply rotating out the math trays and objects, I can provide my students an engaging math experience each week!

Not only has this station provided essential skills practice for my students, but it gives them an opportunity to interact and work together each day. From choosing materials, taking turns, and solving problems, my students are working on positive social emotional interactions. Thank you again for investing in my students!”

  • Take a Look, It's in a Book!

    Funded Mar 16, 2021

Thank you so much for donating to this project!! These bookshelves have allowed me to create two new wonderful, kindergarten-friendly reading areas for my students.

The smaller magazine holder has been placed in our reading loft it hold ZooBooks and other classroom magazines that we will receive through the year! It's perfect for keeping these types of materials displayed in an inviting way and easily accessible! The larger book shelf has been used to completely reorganize our classroom library! I think this will provide such an inviting space for my kindergarteners to easily browse through books and be able to independently put them away!”

  • Mentor Texts for Kindergarten Writers!

    Funded Mar 16, 2021

My kindergarteners were thrilled to see the boxes of new books arriving at our door!! These books have been amazing resources for our writer's workshop time each day.

One of my favorite activities this year was reading "The Best Part of Me" and then letting them create their own writing about their favorite "parts." It was some of the most amazing kindergarten writing ever! We proudly displayed these in the hallway.

I can't wait to use this collection of books for years to come with my kindergarten writers!”

  • My Future Story... Girls Can Be Scientists Too!

    Funded Feb 27, 2021

My kindergarteners are over the moon to have a new science center!!

These books about women in STEM careers have inspired my girls to be doctors, scientists, engineers and more. My kindergarteners especially love exploring slides under the kid-friendly microscope and investigating the Lakeshore Learning boxes about different topics with the magnifying glasses. The acrylic bug collection, x-rays and magnet materials have been a big hit as well! I love to see them exploring in this station, and then drawing/writing in their science notebooks about what they discovered!

Thank you so much for helping me create a space for everyone to enjoy science in my classroom!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Westbrook

My students are kindergartners that are eager to learn. They come to me with many different backgrounds - many lacking a solid foundation in one-to-one matching and counting skills. Many times, my classroom is the first place they experience holding a picture book and taking it in from cover to cover. They love to go back to "favorites" and read them over and over again, and math related picture books are a precious commodity! Everyone wants a turn with "those" books!
