The Physics of Life Project is designed to bring “real” physics to life so students can learn to make connections between science and their daily lives by merging real-time measurement, data visualization and analysis. Although students do not have access to printed media, the IPad will equip them with infinite access to current science journals, magazines, articles and multimedia sources. Additionally, through the use of the IPad and corresponding applications students will be able to capture & record their motion and the sounds they make as well as light, sound and the motion of common objects and practices. Through the use of IPad apps such as Vpython and Lab Solvers students will be able to create conceptual and numerical models of the data gathered from their environment. Students will be able to explore physics concepts and solve problems without getting derailed by the math of physics. The IPad will also afford students to use the Skype feature to connect them with Physicists who participate in the Imagine a Future Program and other content experts to help them formulate and evaluate their findings. In this project, students can support their findings with research and prepare presentations of their conclusions independently. The Science of Life Project promotes independent discovery, research and analysis of the world using contemporary STEM practices that builds students’ independent capacity, efficacy and motivation to question. Providing my students with the necessary tools for contemporary science exploration will increase my students’ skills and success in Science and help them to be loose the Focus designation.
