  • Update: "But Miss, Black People Can't Be President!"

    Funded Jul 1, 2008

Thank you so much for reaching out to support my special classroom. I had no idea that my proposal would get funded so quickly, and you were overwhelmingly-generous to fund the complete grant. Resources are a delightful treat on our campus, where almost 90% of our student have free lunch.

At this very moment I am sitting at my desk during summer school. I just told several students that we will be receiving "TFK" for another year and they let out a very audible cheer. (I'm sure I don't have to explain to you that it is truly rare for 3rd graders to cheer anything that has to do with reading, let alone non-fiction reading!)

Our school year doesn't begin until August 27, but rest-assured you will be receiving grateful thank you notes from my students as soon as possible this fall. Also, if you would like further updates about what we are working on with TFK, please feel free to email me at [EMAIL REDACTED]. I know that it's against confidentiality rules to tell you more about my school, but I would love to send you photos of our election board.

I just can't say "Thank You!" enough for your wonderful gift. I know that your generosity will be rewarded, because those who help our children help the future.

    Bless You,

    Sarah ”

  • "Doctor, is there a cure for "Chocolate Fever?""

    Funded Jan 9, 2008

Wow! You absolutely made my day! I am so thrilled that you found my proposal worthy of funding. You have no idea how wonderful it will be to have these books in my classroom. I'm especially thankful because I will have plenty of time to complete the test-prep unit before the dreaded TAKS test in early March. Thank you from the bottom of my heart! I hope you have a wonderful new year.

Thank you (oh so very much!),

  • Less TAKS-ing Test Prep: Whining And Tantrums Not Included

    Funded Dec 18, 2007

Thank you so much for taking an interest in my classroom and in the lives of my students. I feel truly blessed that you decided to help fund my little project. These centers will be remarkably beneficial to my students as we prepare for the 3rd grade Reading TAKS test. It is also quite nifty to think about the fact that I can now say our urban public school has some of the same "fancy" materials that you would find in suburban schools. Thank you for helping to close the achievement gap! Bless you and have a safe and happy holiday”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Milianta-Laffin

  • It's GAME Time!!! (Shhh...They Don't Know They're Learning!)

    Funded Dec 17, 2007

Thank you so much for granting these holiday wishes for my classroom. These comprehension games will be invaluable to my students and really, to the entire 3rd grade at Alexander Elementary. It was great to receive the news that my proposal had been funded right before our holiday break because I was able to share it with my 3rd grade team of teachers, and our reading specialists, all of whom are now anxiously awaiting the arrival of these wonderful resources. Thank you again, and have a safe and happy holiday.

  • "But Miss, Black People Can't Be President!"

    Funded Dec 10, 2007

You have no idea how thrilled I was to receive the email today telling me that my "Time for Kids" grant has been fully-funded! I could not think of a better holiday gift to give my students than than the gift of kid-friendly current events. My students do watch the news, but the don't often understand what they see. The format of "Time for Kids" is perfect to explain the world in terms that make sense to them. It will also be perfect non-fiction practice for the upcoming TAKS test! Thank you so much for helping my students obtain this wonderful resource. You have truly made my holiday complete by being the "news elf" of sorts for my 3rd graders. Thank you for your generous donation and I hope you and your family have a safe and happy holidays!

    Thank You,

    Sarah ”

  • Investigative Reporters Need Clipboards and Pencils!

    Funded Nov 15, 2007

It was such a blessing to get the email today that you helped fund my project. You have no idea how grateful I am for your assistance. Just today, (one day before Thanksgiving break) I had to get out our very last box of (bad) pencils to use during class. My students are also anxiously awaiting to use their clipboards and write "like real reporters." Thank you for your kindness and donation to support the growth of our nation's future leaders.

Thank You (from the bottom of my heart),

    Sarah ”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Milianta-Laffin
