I participated in a Mindfulness in the Classroom professional development and knew I needed to implement this in my classroom this coming school year! Mindfulness in the classroom has the capacity of training students to nurture qualities for success include focusing, awareness, resilience, and curiosity. Reflection is simply a way of equipping students with tools to help with attention and focus when they work. The students will also have a “cool-down” area in the classroom where they can go when they are feeling stressed or overwhelmed. When students know there is a safe place specifically used to de-stress it will naturally lower their stress level. This is why I have chosen a small rug with two pillows with positive sayings. The games and books I have chosen will allow mindfulness strategies that are useful for combating stress, anger, worry and increasing focus. The games chosen teach and engage children critical mindfulness skills. Players learn different mindfulness techniques and how to apply them in their everyday lives.
