I teach math to high schoolers where close to 80% of students are receiving free or reduced lunches.
My students come from all walks of life. Our kids are loud but are mature beyond their years in what they experience daily. Most come from little of their own with respect to their means and attend school every day with the desire to be inspired. Many of my students don't have computers or Internet at home. They don't know how to type or even create presentations and posters for Math class. My students have very little confidence in math and see it as too difficult to understand.
They deserve the best out of me they can get. I want to foster in them an interest in a subject area that is notorious for being hard.
