Headphones, Supplies and Books - OH MY!
Funded Jun 28, 2018Thank you so much for helping fund my project. Students are so excited to be able to use technology, have more books to choose from and work with the supplies we received.
This year my goal was to have more independent reading in my classroom. I wanted students to be able to select their novels, so they would be more invested in reading them. I also am always looking for more ways to integrate technology in the classroom and we are using Flocabulary with our new headphones to expand our mode of acquisition.
We are learning all sorts of literary skills including methods of characterization, analyzing themes and understanding plot development. The best part about having class sets of the new novels, is that students can participate in book clubs and discuss what they are learning. We wouldn't be able to do this without your generosity.”

Funded Sep 28, 2017Thank you so much for supporting my project. My students are currently using the technology your generosity funded to do research projects involving our Holocaust Unit. We are creating Google Sites that involve our Holocaust unit. I would love to share some products with you but we are still in the beginning stages. Students will eventually showcase their work at our end of the year Vanguard Showcase.
The students love working on the ThinkPads and are enjoying creating their projects which are part of the Texas Performance Standards Project for gifted and talented students. Their favorite part of the new technology is using the touchscreen.
Many of my students are somewhat proficient in technology usage, but not in using certain programs. I've also found that reluctant students enjoy working on the computer and creating projects. It really seems to bring them out of their shell.”

Getting Centered After Harvey
Funded Oct 2, 2017Thank you so much for funding my project to help assist my students during interventions. After Hurricane Harvey, we lost two weeks of instructional time, making the task of teaching our "At Risk" population even more difficult. Our campus always offers students intervention classes after school and on Saturdays, but this year they are even more crucial because of our late start.
I'm always looking for ways to make reading more fun, especially during interventions. Middle school students tend to dislike reading and I have to find ways to motivate them. Thanks to your generosity, I was able to implement centers. We used the Thinkpads to work on vocabulary, the dry erase sheets to respond to answers of written passages and they played the games on their own. The games you purchased for us were a hit. All of my students were engaged, I even saw one student smiling who is usually very anti-social.
Our middle school, is one of the highest performing in Texas. Despite the fact that the majority of my students are English language learners, at risk and economically disadvantaged, they always work hard and do their best. I'm amazed by them daily and am truly thankful that you were willing to support us in our efforts.”
With gratitude,
Ms. Fry
