Math Facts, Cleaning, Play, and More!
Funded Dec 6, 2024Thank you for your generous donation. An important standard in 2nd grade is to be fluent at addition and subtraction facts through 20. We practice this the whole school year. It was wonderful to have easy and inviting flash cards so students can practice together. This promotes active involvement, independence, social interaction, and math development.
The different flash cards make the experience differentiated. As students finish work, they are able to use the cards so I can continue working with students.
In addition, it is always helpful to have items to help fight germs and keep the work clean.
Students love to have the play dough during downtime, indoor recess, or as an incentive for positive behaviors.”

Funded Nov 29, 2024Thank you so much for your donations. I am continually amazed by the generosity of my family, friends, and other anonymous donors. I work hard in my classroom to help all students succeed. To do this, I need differentiated materials. The curriculum helps provide a baseline for students and teaches grade level content. However, 50 % of the students are either below or above this baseline. They need opportunities to be challenged or additional supports to meet their needs. The materials from this project helps me be able to work with students in small groups while giving other students something to do when they are finished with their schoolwork. Students love hands on learning and all of these reading materials support this.”

Therapy Dog Reading Materials for the Classroom
Funded Oct 24, 2024Thank You for your donations! This is my first year having a therapy dog in the classroom. It has been amazing. Her name is Remy. She brings so much joy, companionship, and insight in to the classroom. We have discussions about emotions and kindness around her . She helps students with motivation and handling "big" feelings. She just makes everyone smile! The tent is a great place for students to read to her or work quietly. Each week we have a student of the week who gets to sit in the bean bag and work next to Remy. The clipboards and folding desk make this easier. The plastic sleeves are wonderful because we do not have to make as many copies and resources can be used more than once. Remy wears a bandana to school each day. One that says she is a therapy dog and can be petted is perfect! I am continually amazed by everyone's generosity. The students and I appreciate all of you so much.”

Daily Classroom Items and Comfort Dog Supplies!
Funded Aug 2, 2023Thank You for your donation to support our classroom and comfort dog! The items were so helpful. The rug is a hit with the students. It gives each of them a designated spot to sit. We feel very organized with a new schedule, book bags, and mailbox. These items help the students be organized and know what to expect each day. When we meet with our small groups, the dry erase colored dots have a dual purpose. They help the students know where to sit and they are a fun way for them to show their work. Of course, Remy loved the dog food and new kennel!”

Funded Jul 17, 2023Thank You for your donation to support having a comfort dog in our classroom. I have been able to purchase Remy and she is wonderful! She's a beautiful labrador/retriever mix. She has a wonderful personality. She's full of love, patience, and cuteness!
She has not yet made it into our classroom but she has visited the school. She does spend time visiting many places in the community such as, the library, senior center, high school sports' games, memory care home, and my gym! Everywhere she goes, she brings love and smiles. She especially enjoys having her belly rubbed.
She is making a difference! I am eager to have her in the classroom to bring smiles to my students' faces.”

Motivating Math Materials
Funded Dec 7, 2022Thank You for your generous donations for our classroom. I am passionate about teaching math and am always looking for ways to support and motivate my first grade students.
The dice are very helpful because they are foam (think quiet :)) and they have both smaller and larger numbers which support different skill levels.
The 120 mat is very helpful for students to be able to see number patterns, add, and subtract. We work on one more, one less, ten more, ten less as well ask skip counting, counting forward, and counting back.
The students love the domino game! This is something they can play independently in small groups. They can work on skills while i work with small groups.
The puzzles are great for students who are working on basic number sense. They feel successful while they are having fun.
Please look for a future project of mine. This one involves an animal!!!!”

Cuddle Up With a Comfort Dog
Funded Jun 7, 2022Thank You for supporting our efforts to have a comfort dog! Your donations have helped us officially enter the waiting ranks! We hope to receive our dog by next September if not sooner! I continue to read everything I can about having a comfort dog at school. The research is clear-it will make a difference in our students' lives! Students benefit from having this creature give them unconditional love. Dogs help lower anxiety and stress. This can be scientifically measured! Not to mention dogs make us happy! We all need a little more happiness in our life!
The next step is to solidify our plan how to use our dog in the best possible way. We want as many children as possible to benefit from this opportunity. One main goal will be to have students read to our dog. I tutor students outside of school and would like to give students the opportunity to have individual reading/dog time.
We have had a few roadblocks with convincing everyone having a comfort dog would make a huge difference in our students' daily lives. We will continue to tackle this challenge and stay positive this dream will come true.”

Supplies for Our Classroom Pets
Funded Apr 28, 2022My students are so excited to have guinea pigs in their classroom. It just brings an extra dose of excitement and motivation! The little critters provide them with opportunities to practice social skills, kindness, and responsibility. They get to hold them, write about them, read to them, and take care of them. The supplies you provided us help us continue to take care of them and manage them in our classroom. Everyone is aware of all the supplies that are needed so when they saw the shipment arrive, they were very excited. The little house is wonderful. It allows us to bring the piggies to their desks. The students can keep working while have a friendly visit from the piggies. The next step for us is a comfort dog! We are currently raising money to purchase one for the 2023-2024 school year!”

Sit At Boring Desks? Never Again!
Funded Sep 21, 2018Wow! I am so touched and grateful for the donations to our classroom. I planned this project without an expectation it would be fully funded. I was pleasantly surprised it only took about a month! The students' eyes lit up when all of the materials arrived. It's the small things that make a difference.
I have always allowed my students to move around the classroom when they are working. However, having the flexibility and choices this project has provided is so much fun! We are currently sharing all the materials as students experiment with what helps them focus and feel comfortable. The wobbly seats and round balls can be pulled right up to their desks. Other materials, such as the cushions and bean bag, are used on the floor or reading area. Many students enjoy the standing desks! Standing at a desk is such a simple idea but makes a big difference for the students who need to move to focus.
The students are so excited every day when they show up to school and see what "fun chair" they get to use! In the future, I hope to continue to expand our flexible seating choices with small stools, comfortable chairs, and more wobbly chairs.
It is important to me students understand others care about their education and donated their money to support them. We talk about empathy, gratitude, and selfishness often in my classroom. Your support of us is a wonderful real word example for them!”
With gratitude,
Mrs. Andrews
