  • Books, Books, Books! Let's Make Learning About History More Interesting

    Funded Aug 18, 2021

A difficult subject to teach children is history. For special education students especially, historical events can feel distant, sometimes boring, and unrelated to their current lives of video games, YouTube, and whatever new thing is capturing the attention of kids at the time you're reading this. That's where a good biography comes in. The "Who Was" series profiles a very diverse group of historically and culturally significant people such as Amelia Earhart, Benedict Arnold, Neil Armstrong, Maya Angelou, Steve Jobs, and Michael Jordan. Thank you so much for giving my students this series of books.”

  • Incentives to Succeed

    Funded Aug 16, 2021

I find rewards increase participation, thoughtful responses, and group cohesion in cooperative learning. Motivation is learnable and teachable and I endeavor to make learning fun and my students genuinely do get excited about learning new things that are intrinsically and naturally motivated. I have found that extrinsic rewards that are small, and given occasionally, help in classroom management and student motivation. All of my students will be directly affected by your donation in many different ways. Rewards help students monitor their own behavior by tracking rewards received (affirmation tickets add up to specific rewards). Positive reinforcement of good behavior works best for me and my students and the use of rewards has been shown to be effective as seen in modified behavior by students. Rewards add a little excitement to review strategies evidenced by increased student participation. Thank you so much for making this possible!”

  • Who Likes BINGO? We Do!

    Funded Aug 17, 2021

Thank you so much for your generosity. Your kindness has not only provided our students with valuable resources, but your donation has also shown my students that there are many great people out there that are willing to help out when needed. While playing games, our students will learn and they won't even realize it. This project also has some prizes so that they can be rewarded when they get bingo. Of course, we will make sure that everybody that is paying attention will win at some point. My students and I thank you for considering our project for a donation. Your generosity makes a difference. Thank you! Thank you again for making a difference in the lives of my students. You rock!”

  • Hydration Station for Thirsty Students

    Funded Jul 20, 2021

All the water fountains have been disabled due to COVID restrictions and my students are required to bring their own water bottles to school each day. This water cooler will allow our students to hydrate during the school day. One bottle is not usually enough to get my students through the day, therefore they can also use this as a filling station. Not only will I be able to keep this water station much cleaner than a water fountain in the hallway, but it also keeps the students out of the hallways and in their classroom for instruction. Thank you so much for making this possible!”

  • We Need Some Basics

    Funded Aug 19, 2021

After 17 months at home, our students are coming back into the building. This means that many will need some help with basic supplies. Thank to you, they now have them! The supplies in this project will help our students with basic supplies for a perfect start to a new school year. Glue, index cards, pens, crayons, etc. will make a big difference for our families that sometimes do not send in supplies with their students. Thank you so much for your very generous donation to our classroom. Our students and I greatly appreciate your generosity and kindness.”

  • Scholastic News Scholars!

    Funded Aug 11, 2021

Scholastic News and Science Spin Magazines are a great way for students to explore the informational text in a new and different way while also giving them digital access. Children often find that their families get their news from online sources they are not familiar with print magazines. This project will allow them to have that experience.

Using Scholastic News Magazines will give my students the opportunity to read an informational text without using the internet. These magazines will enhance and aid in the various topics being covered in the classroom. Each month, Scholastic News Magazines cover topics about holidays or events happening that month. Science Spin gives amazing visuals and more in-depth information about the topics we are covering in our class. These magazines will make learning more fun and engaging each time we use them. Thank you so much for your generosity and for making this possible.”

  • Let the Games Begin!

    Funded Aug 16, 2021

We want to make it as fun as possible for our special needs students. Thanks to you we can give our students the chance to learn and play a variety of classic and popular board games. These games will help work on their mental health and social interactions with each other, as well as practice their new academic skills. With these board games, students will learn to be a teammate, follow rules, learn how to win and lose, make friends and have patience. This will support their social and emotional growth by supporting all these learning areas. Making friends is key to their emotional and social growth. Thank you so much for your generous donations.”

  • Brainpop as a Hook for New Concept or Lesson

    Funded Aug 7, 2021

I could not wait for the start of the school year to send you another thank you for your generosity. My students have Autism and other developmental disabilities, and they will benefit from high-quality digital lessons. These lessons will serve as a warm-up and providing background knowledge to students. All my students love using Brainpop to start a new concept or lesson. The students can use Brainpop to improve their understanding of the concepts. This will, in turn, allow them to learn and understand the core curriculum lessons better. Whether we continue to learn virtually or begin learning in-person next year, the students will enjoy and benefit from this online video subscription. Thank you, again, so much for making this possible.”

  • Games to Build a Community

    Funded Aug 5, 2021

Games are more than just pieces and laughs. Games build community. Games help give children a safe space to learn and grow. Thank you so much for bringing these games into my classroom (and some when we go outside), I know that it will create an amazing learning environment for our students. Each game will allow my students to learn and grow with one another. These games will help create a classroom environment that goes beyond just our educational needs but our social-emotional needs too. Thank you for helping to give my students the opportunity to learn but also play with one another.”

    Funded Jul 29, 2021

After 17 months at home, our students are coming back into the building soon. This means that many will need some help with basic supplies. The supplies in this project will help our students with basic supplies that they often struggle to come in with themselves.

Dry erase markers, index cards, pencils, paper, etc. will make a big difference for our families that sometimes do not have the extra funds to buy supplies for their students. Thank you so much for funding this project. Our students and I greatly appreciate it. You are amazing!”

My students and I are in a school just outside of Philadelphia. My students are a great bunch of kids that have a lot going on on an emotional level. They often have a lot of drama going on behind closed doors that few people know about. All they need is somebody to take the time to listen to them. Because of their background, they often have a lower reading level than what their grade level indicates. Most are better learners when they are taught differently than only from books.
