My students are kind, dedicated, and fantastic dreamers! The amount of passion and energy I experience on a daily basis is addictive and contagious. The majority of my students come from low-income backgrounds (60% of our students are eligible for free lunch). I have noticed, however, that they do not let their circumstances define them or quell their dreams. I discuss college with them on a daily basis and there is no doubt in their minds that they will be College Ready Scholars at the end of their 9th grade year. Our school is over 50 years old; the building was built in 1959 and has not been improved or renovated since then. I am hoping to instill in my students a sense that they deserve the best and that they can reach for the moon because with hard work and dedication, they will get there.
