My students are high school students who attend a public school in California. Our school once had a thriving broadcast journalism program but due to budget cuts, the program was eliminated a few years back. My current students were given the daunting task of restarting the program. They are hard working, tech savvy students who know their way around the digital age. However, our biggest challenge is learning "old" technology rather than new. They have had to use old studio cameras to film their show as well as mini-dv video cameras that very few of them were familiar with. Being in a school in Southern California, they are right in the middle of the entertainment industry and many of them are interested in pursuing careers in the industry. It would benefit them tremendously to work with digital workflow to familiarize them with current industry standards.
