My students crave connections! They're between the ages of 12 -14 and they love the opportunity to bring in something to the discussion. They are always saying, "This is just like when..." Some students have a greater opportunity for those first hand connections, but with a large urban population, first hand isn't always an option. Technology gives them an opportunity to take a "virtual visit" to somewhere out of the classroom. They get to explore, discover and manipulate their way around a lesson, without just the one angle that the teacher givers. They are given an opportunity to lead the instruction in a new way, bringing something to the table, and most importantly, become empowered.
