  • Five Opportunities To Grow

    Funded Apr 22, 2015

My students are absolutely thrilled to have full access to internet resources in our classroom! We are now able to incorporate more exploration and independent work which has added an element of interest I didn't realize existed. Currently the laptops are being used to extend learning by supplementing books and worksheets and I like to allow some students to come up during lunch to complete other assignments as well.

With only five laptops in the room I have seen a significant change in my students abilities and I am very happy with how much more interested they become when they are given the freedom to explore and guide their own learning. We are still in the beginning stages of incorporating the technology but I am hopeful for where we can go with them.

Thank you again for your generosity in making my students lives better.”

    With gratitude,

    Mr. Rossi

  • Yes! Come on Up and Show Us!

    Funded Oct 3, 2014

After having and using the donated equipment for almost 3 full months I can say there is a significant improvement in the quality of education my students are receiving. The class moves more smoothly, at a pace that captures interest, and allows for random journeys of curiosity.

Up until recently I had not asked my students about having the equipment, I just allowed it to help them on a daily basis and did my best to integrate more and more and make the most of what we were given. When I started a class with "Who remembers the donors choose project I was working on?" I saw 30 palms every time. When I then asked "How many of you feel that having these new materials has helped your education?" I was surprised when again, 30 enthusiastic hands flew into the air in each class.

As I asked students to share how exactly the equipment has helped them I became more and more amazed at the depth of their responses. I knew each piece I requested was important and would help, but I had no idea just how much it could. I found out that my students LOVE science, that they are extremely curious and are thrilled every time I take a tangent to find the answers they didn't know existed. The impact has been enormous and is owed entirely to the generosity and action of others. Thank you for your support.”

    With gratitude,

    Mr. Rossi

In a neighborhood under the flight path of busy JFK airport, students attend grades preK -8, for the most part spending all 9 years in the same building. The Title I school is in the process of improving under the leadership of a wonderful administration team. Progress is being made daily and giving all students a better chance at achieving a bright future. The students are curious and energetic with a thousand and one questions about everything. The school is attempting to become increasingly more web-based to allow flexibility in communication with parents and grow the overall involvement. This method has high potential however the lack of functioning equipment is a hindrance. Some rooms have interactive white boards from Promethean and SMART, but others are left with projector carts that may or may not include a working computer and projection screen surface. The lack of technology makes it hard to engage in the full interactive experience with parents and students.
