  • Let's Target Alternative Seating

    Funded Aug 20, 2016

A giant THANK YOU to all of the fabulous donors. These chairs have delighted and engaged my students on a daily basis. These chairs have provided a lot of movement that not only helped my students sit comfortably, but also helped them concentrate and complete their work. The markers have been used to engage my students. My students have been doing a lot of walking as they solve problems on the board.

I would like to continue using markers to get my students moving around during centers. I would also like to continue using these chairs to provide alternative seating for all of my students. Thank you for giving us this awesome opportunity.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Hernandez

  • Healthy Students Are Ready to Learn

    Funded Aug 1, 2016

Thank you for helping our class. These chairs have been a great way for my students to move around. My students have been busy keeping their body actively engaged, while completing their work. My students have used the hand sanitizer to get rid of hand germs and the disinfecting wipes have helped get rid of cold and flu viruses that linger on desks and tables.

I would like to continue using these items in my classroom. I will continue to clean our tables on a day to day basis. My students will use the chairs each and every day. Thank you for your kindness!”

  • Eager Students are Ready to Learn STEM

    Funded May 11, 2016

Thank you sooooooo much for providing my class with these awesome resources. My students have had several opportunities to use this Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) bundle to learn new skills. These resources have truly helped my students explore and understand important concepts such as cause and effect. It was nice to walk around and overhear my students discuss why some items are attracted to a magnet and why others were not. It was also great having my students work in cooperatively with one another.

I liked how my students used the dot markers. My students have different abilities and this was a great way to differentiate their math centers. Some of my students were able to add and subtract using the dot markers. Other students were able to create arrays to helped them solve multiplication problems. I would like my students to continue using these great resources for the new school year. My students learn best when using different modalities.”

  • Did Someone Say Computer Programming? Count Us In

    Funded Feb 14, 2016

Thank you for helping us fund this project. Several of my students spent their lunch time working on the Lego Mindstorms starter set. Building the Lego Mindstorms has taught my students patience and perseverance. It took close to a month to finish building this robot. My students chose to construct the Spik3r robot. It looks similar to a spider with six legs and has claws in front of it and a ball shooter on the top. My students were able to command the robot crawl walk and shoot the balls at a specific target. It was an exciting way to teach my students coding skills. My students also used the Magformers magnets to build geometric shapes and towers. We use the geometric shaped for one of our math lessons.

I am looking into the possibility of starting a robotics lunch club next school year. I would like to encourage more girls to participate, so that we may have an equal number of male and female participants.”

  • Empowering Students Through Art with Sketchbooks and Paints

    Funded Feb 14, 2016

A big THANK YOU to all the donors for helping us fund our art project. My students have used the sketch pads and deluxe art sets during our art center. They have been busy illustrating pictures of the poems they have read. My students have also gained a better understanding of the meaning of the poems by answering reflective questions. Sketching on their sketchpads gives my students an opportunity to spend some quiet time and it also allows my students creativity and imagination to increase.

The next steps for my students will be to continue using sketch pads for next school year. It will be great way to start at the beginning of the school year and continue for the remainder of the school year. They will learn about different poets and create a nice collection of art pieces. Then at the end of the school year, my students will keep the sketchbook.”

  • Saving the Environment One Lego At A Time

    Funded May 17, 2016

Thank you for helping my class obtain a variety of Legos. Legos have foster a love of creativity by providing opportunities for my students to have fun, get creative and use critical thinking. These are some of the same skills that are needed to tackle environmental issues. My third graders have been busy building homes and cars for our Lego community. Some of my female students confided in me that they had never played with Legos and they really enjoyed building a barn house. I make sure that each day, I put aside some time for my students to continue adding more to our Lego community.

The next step will be to include a couple of other classes to join in on the fun. The community will continue to expand and then it will be displayed around my room and my students will explain the impact of water pollution and how to maintain our community clean. This project will be ever changing because my students will remove and add to our Lego community in order to improve its function.”

  • Did Someone Say Computer Programming? Hooray!

    Funded Mar 20, 2016

My students have been having a blast in my Learning Center. Little by little my classroom has been slowly taken over by robots. It's amazing to see my students learning to code. When they need help, they will often ask a peer. I like to see how they problem solve together. The power adapters have served a dual purpose. I originally ordered them to use for the tablets but I also use them to charge the robots. It helps us charge the tablets and the robots at the same time. This ensures that they are ready when we need them most.

I would like to start a robotics lunch club next school year, to encourage more students to code. This inspiration came from Malala Yousafzai. I have seen some girls interested in coding but I would like an even number of students to join. Thank you for supporting us with our dream project and making it a reality.”

  • Dash and Dot Robots to the Rescue

    Funded Apr 22, 2016

My students enjoy using our new robots. On Friday's my students have an opportunity to use Dash and Dot (robots). They have also been busy learning to code. The robots are easy to use and large enough to move around my classroom. My students have also been busy experimenting with the Dot and Dash accessories. The launcher is a fun way for Dash load and launch a ball. They are able to adjust the power on the launcher when aiming at different targets. These robots bring loads of fun into our class.

The next steps for my students is to continue using the robots and enhancing their coding skills. I hope to start a club next school year to encourage more students to code.”

  • All Charged Up

    Funded Apr 18, 2016

Thank you for helping us get all charged up. My students and I have been busy using these new resources. We are learning how to code and it's important to have our robots ready to go. I use the power cords to charge the robots and I use the charging station to charge our tablets. The tablets are used to control the robots.

My students were happy to open the boxes. They understood the importance of having these materials. They got the opportunity to pick the perfect spot to place the charging station.

The next steps for my students is to continue using my collection of LEGO challenge cardstock cards to sneak some STEM learning each day. The laminating sheets have made the cards more durable and my students will enjoy using them for months to come. I am eternally grateful to all the wonderful donors that made this project possible.”

  • Empowering Students Through Art

    Funded Apr 30, 2016

My students have been busy using these new resources. We have been busy learning about life cycles. The learned the life cycle of a frog. Then they learned about the life cycle of a butterfly. Currently, they are learning about the life cycle of a ladybug. We read a book about the life cycle of a ladybug. Then they used the Post-it notes to draw the different stages of a ladybug's life cycle. They had an opportunity to sequence the stages and explain the life cycle to a partner. They also love the new pencils cases because they are easy to use and we are able to store a lot of our supplies.

The next steps for my students is to introduce the life cycle of a bean plant. They will have an opportunity to draw and label the stages of the life cycle of a plant. This is a great way to check for understanding by having students explain the four stages.”
