A Love for Storytime
Funded Dec 29, 2013My kindergarten classroom was in need of classroom books for my students to engage in read alouds, explore rich texts, and foster their passion for reading. Because of your generosity, we now have a plethora of amazing books! These books have allowed students to ask and answer questions and practice comprehension skills with books that pique their interest as well as promote higher critical thinking skills. They have allowed us to reflect on important messages, laugh at the funny things their favorite character Froggy does, and many more timeless memories and lessons. They engage in read alouds at least twice a day and have benefited greatly from the books you have provided for us.
My students also read independently every day. Although they are just beginning to read, they are able to read these books in a variety of ways including reading the pictures, reading the words, retelling familiar texts. They have been able to not only develop important skills during read alouds, but have been able to transfer those skills to their independent reading time.
I am so grateful that as the year comes to a close, I know I have been able to foster a love for reading in my students. They are more prepared for first grade and have acquired skills through reading these texts but more importantly love books - a skill that is so important as they move forward in school. This wouldn't have been possible without your donations. We thank you so much!”

Setting the Stage for Learning: Whole Group Time
Funded Jul 17, 2013Thank you so much for your support in funding my Whole Group Time project. My kindergarten students needed a new classroom carpet for our whole group learning time, one of the most valuable parts of our day together.
They were so excited the day our carpet came. We worked together as a team to unwrap the packaging and roll it onto the floor. They were so excited! Some of them even stopped to take in the "new carpet" smell. Since that day, we have been able to have many purposeful learning opportunities. Students have been able to engage with their favorite storybooks, work in partners on learning games and grow closer together as a classroom family.
We have enjoyed months of learning and growing together on our new classroom carpet, and look forward to this semester with more fun to come! All of this was made possible with your support and we greatly appreciate it. Thank you again!”
With gratitude,
Mrs. Chell-Sullivan
