  • Cardboard For What?!: An Ancient Greece Creative Learning Adventure

    Funded Aug 14, 2023

I am so excited that this project has been fully funded! With the help of supporters like you my students will be able to create their cardboard projects. I can’t wait to see their final products! Giving students a 3 dimensional way to express their ideas will help build their problem solving skills and creative thinking. Thank you again for your support!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Cabrera

  • Learning Through Play: Future Preparation With Tegu

    Funded Apr 28, 2021

Thank you so much for getting Tegu blocks into the hands of students at my school. This will be a great hands on learning tool to help students see and experience science and math. Hands on learning with Tegu will help students make deeper connections. I think teachers will love them too. I'm already thinking about how to write up curriculum that can be used with K-2 students and tied to the Virginia Standards of Learning. I can't wait to show off all the awesome things we will do!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Cabrera

  • Adventures in School: Using Board Games to Become Better Thinkers

    Funded Feb 16, 2020

I am completely blown away with your generosity towards my vision of using board games with my 4th and 5th grade students. Pyramid Arcade will give them a multitude of opportunities. I can’t wait to see their faces when we get Pyramid Arcade and start using it to develop their critical thinking skills. Thank you so much!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Cabrera

  • Using Games to Teach: Bringing Focused Fun into the Classroom

    Funded Feb 1, 2020

I am so excited to be able to have enough copies of SLAPZI for every second grade classroom at my schools. The students will be excited to learn a new game and aim excited to see how they acquire new vocabulary and critical thinking skills. I will be going in to all the second grade classrooms to introduce the game. After all second grade classes have had a chance to have guided game play with me in their classroom, I will leave a copy for the students to play in their classroom. I can’t wait to update you in the spring with pictures and thank you notes from the students.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Cabrera

SLAPZI is a game that is accessible to all students. Since it is picture based and the topics are simple, it allows those who are still learning English to participate in the game. I will use these games to expose students to new vocabulary and problem solving. Observing how students play SLAPZI will also allow me to see which students would be good candidates for gifted services. I will be observing how quickly students connect their available pictures/words to the current topic. I will also observe their thinking by the types of connections they make between pictures/words and topics. Once I have taught the game to all second grade classes, I will leave a copy of the game for students to play. Making the game available in the classroom allows the students the opportunity to further increase their vocabulary and creative thinking.
