  • Senior's Wishlist for College Readiness

    Funded Mar 25, 2025

Thank you Donors Choose for your generous matching on the Donors Choose anniversary! With the support of Child Mind Institute gift cards for completing lessons, students were able to fund the items they needed to help them finish our their senior. I'm hoping this project will increase our graduation rate in our school.”

  • Comfort for Los Angeles Students After Wildfire

    Funded Feb 3, 2025

Students were so excited for the deliveries to arrive. The bean bag was a great addition to the calming corner since my last chair broke. The hot chocolate packets have been a huge hit on rainy days to warm students up and to motivate them to drink the school milk instead of throwing it out.

The snacks have motivated students to show up for class on time and to lesson the need to go on a walk looking for other snacks on campus. More time in class means more learning.

I've been giving out the cup of noodles during tutoring as an after school snack which motivated students to keep learning after a long day.

The notebooks have helped students keep track of their notes instead of losing separate loose leaf papers.

This was such a success I think I'll have to do another donors choose for snacks because breaking bread together has bonded the class and made it feel like a safe space.”

  • Menstruation Comfort

    Funded Mar 19, 2025

Thank you donors for letting our menstruating students know their comfort in school matters. Students shouldn't have to miss school or leave early or have to change thie clothing due to lack of menstrual supplies. With your support students will have their needs taken care of and be ready to learn.”

  • Fidget Without Phones

    Funded Aug 12, 2024

I gave each classroom in our school a box of fidgets and a box of pencil grips. With your generosity all of the students in the school have access to support them to focus.

The students are very excited to have pencil grips and fidgets. The students especially like to use the fidgets while they are testing to help them focus. The pencil grips are great fidgets since they can be used continually for a long time. Some of the fidgets can be shared between students and some are one time use but all support students to emotionally regulate and allow for learning.”

  • Building Food Molecules

    Funded Nov 2, 2023

Students loved being able to eat snacks while learning about food molecules. When ever I talk about cellular respiration with students I jump up and down and shout "ATP" to indicate the creation of cellular energy units. I've had students yell "ATP" to me in the hallway years after they had my class.

The molecular structure of food molecules like lipids and carbohydrates are confusing for students. Seeing the long lipids tails built into a molecule versus the chains of carbohydrates helps students visally understand that lipids store energy and complex carbs have more energy than simple carbs.

    We greatly appreciate your donation,”

  • Snacks and Snake Plant

    Funded Mar 30, 2023

Thank you so much for your support for the classroom. The snake plant is a great example as I'm teaching photosynthesis this year, giving ambiance for the classroom and filtering the air. The snake plant survived summer school as they are hardy plants so perfect for the classroom.

The original snake plant I ordered was out of stock and the replacement was cheaper. As a result I ordered some pens and pencil for students to they could always start class with the materials they need to learn.

The snacks were given to my classroom to build stronger relationships over breaking bread with my students. The snacks went quickly and the students wanted more so I've put up another project that already got funded for more snacks. Schools have lots of funding because of COVID but food is not something that is considered instructional materials, so I thank the donors choose community for filling in the gap.”

  • Snacks for Learning

    Funded Jun 2, 2023

Thank you for the snacks for the classroom. The boxes and water were divided into 5 classrooms whose students are all new to our school. Three of the classrooms have teachers that are in their first year of education. This way students can get fed to focus on their learning and teachers can develop rapport with their students.

The water was timely because we experienced a heat wave this month and Several AC units at our school broke.

We appreciate your support for the classroom, especially as school funds are restricted to not buy food.”

  • Organize Ourselves

    Funded Nov 17, 2022

Thank you for helping our students get organized. With the class set hole punch I can pass out pre-hole punched handouts so students can save time to put then in the 3 ring binder.

Since I teach in a low income school, I try to keep my classroom stocked with paper and pencils so that all of our students can access learning.

The novel fidgets have been popular since the other teachers don't have this style.

The teacher stamps help students get immediate feedback on their work.

Students have enjoyed the gifted folders, notebooks and whiteout tape to use as they see fit.”

  • Comfy and Organized

    Funded Aug 27, 2022

The students love having more choice for chairs. They also enjoyed building them and practicing their real world skills with a screwdriver.

The paper organizer makes it much easier for everyone to turn in assignments by period so student work isn't randomly placed on the teacher's desk.

The students were very excited by the fidget bands and there was a lot of commotion but they have since gotten used to them as an everyday option.

The slides remote is helpful for students presentations and so I can circulate during notes instead of being tied to the teacher desk.

    Thanks for your support,”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Romanak

  • STEAM & Snacks

    Funded Apr 21, 2022

Thank you so much for supporting our low income students. You have taken one step to closing the opportunity gap in our schools.

For all of my students, I was able to refresh the markers and crayons for each lab station for poster making. They were so excited that there was more than 1 or 2 colors in each box and didn't have to go hunting all around the classroom for the color they were looking a specific color.

For the whole school, the snacks supported students to get to class. Whenever I see student out of class, they are often on a hunt for food. With food in the classroom, it is a big motivator to get to class.

The grow light bulb has already been used in my AP Biology class to compare how colored light affects the movement of water in plants. In the same lab, the food coloring got put to use so we could visualize the movement of the water.

Also in the AP Biology class we used the tape to show how molecules bonds with paper models. It helped student learn the structures of proteins, carbohydrates, lipids and nucleic acids.”

An after school club around sustainability will be in charge of maintaining the compost. All of the students will use gardening gloves when maintaining the compost pile and taking samples for experiments. All of the school will donate food into the compost pile. The earthworms will provide a real life example of decomposers in the cycling of matter on Earth. My biology classes will use the compost pile to collect data around cellular respiration of the earthworms using our CO2 probes. We also have temperature probes to study how temperature changes through the compost cycle. The students are very excited to help reduce trash in landfill.
