  • Code for Success!

    Funded Nov 6, 2021

From the moment the Sphero Bots rolled into our classroom, the excitement was palpable. Witnessing the curiosity and anticipation in my students' eyes as they explored the potential of these programmable robots was truly inspiring. The initial reactions ranged from awe to sheer delight, setting the stage for a series of captivating classroom projects.

One standout project involved coding the Sphero Bots to simulate a snow plow, turning our classroom into a winter wonderland. Students collaborated to design and program the bots to clear a path through the "snow," showcasing their coding skills in a fun and interactive way. We also ventured into creating a miniature city, complete with a coded car navigating the streets and innovative buildings crafted by the students. The culmination was a thrilling Battle Bots session where students programmed their Sphero Bots to pop balloons, demonstrating both their coding prowess and strategic thinking.

Looking ahead, the next steps for my students involve delving into an exciting new project where they will explore the principles of augmented reality through coding and interaction with the Sphero Bots. This immersive experience will not only deepen their understanding of technology but also inspire them to push the boundaries of their creativity.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Dobson

These coding Sphero balls will help my students in all the grades I teach, which is K-8. They will be able to learn what coding is and learn in a fun engaging way. It will also help them build teamwork skills as they can work together to get the "ball rolling". Covid took away teamwork and hands-on learning for these students. STEM and coding are a great way to get these students learning and engaged in the skills that they have lost. The specific standards would vary based on the grade level. However, coding can fall under math and science standards for their specific grade levels.
