Each day, my students come into my classroom with an excitement and enthusiasm that is contagious. They are young authors who come from diverse backgrounds. Our Title I student body is 56% Caucasian, 40% African American, and 4% Hispanic, Asian, or mixed. Unfortunately, 89% of our student body qualifies for free or reduced breakfast and lunch. Students in my classroom are learning to communicate through written and oral language and to present their ideas in ways that capture the attention of their audience. In order to successfully reach their goals, these students need to gain a solid foundation in grammar and literacy as well as being taught the craft of writing. My students all have one thing in common: they are all looking for opportunities to excel and my goal is to provide those opportunities daily.
