  • Getting Techy!

    Funded Aug 12, 2023

Your generosity and support of education will create a ripple of encouragement throughout our student and teacher population. My students will be so excited to open and use the tech tools, circuitry kits, and coding tools. Your investment in children builds a community of life long learners. Thank you so much for your kindness.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Burns

  • Wiggle While They Work!

    Funded Nov 2, 2022

Thank you for your generosity. Without this project, my students would never have had this opportunity. Introducing new seating options in our classroom has given my students the freedom to move and choose how they participate in our class throughout the day.

We use these seating options every day. The Kick Bands have made the most significant impact. Now every student has the opportunity to have a Kick Band on their traditional chair. They are greatly loved and used by all my students. The saucer chairs provide a comfortable space for students to curl up and read. They are a favorite among students during quiet focused time. The wobble stools are perfect for my extra wiggly students.

Again, thank you for funding this project. My students and I are forever grateful that you took the opportunity to impact the lives of children.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Burns

  • Full STEAM Ahead!

    Funded Feb 8, 2022

You have greatly impacted the lives of my students. They have now been given access to opportunities of science, technology, art and math they would not have had without your support and generosity! This project allows my students to be creative and cooperative through hands on methods. The creations they make blow the kind and help flourish even greater ideas. I know that because of your support these children's will be confident and encouraged to seek STEAM projects and careers through their school career. The project you have generously funded will impact years of students to come. Thank you so very much!”

  • Graphic Novels for All

    Funded Feb 26, 2020

Your donations have greatly impacted the reading in my classroom. Students cheered as the books were unboxed. Hesitant readers have now latched onto classic stories remade into graphic novels. They have fallen in love with the imagery that brings the stories to life. Students who would have never picked up a chapter book are now cruising through them and begging for the next one in the series. This project occurred pre-covid but has impacted students since. These books continue to fall into the hands of children and foster their love of reading. Helping students find love in the written word is a deep passion of mine and with your generosity, you have helped impact students for years.”

  • Flexible Seating

    Funded Mar 29, 2017

Your generosity has had an overwhelmingly positive impact on my students. They enjoy doing activities that would otherwise be "boring". They love independently reading in their "comfy spots". They love doing group work all around the room. They are excited about all the different places they can read, work, and collaborate!

When the shipments started rolling in the students were wild with excitement. They couldn't wait to start using all the various seating options. The yoga balls and bean chairs are by far their favorite seating options. They also love grabbing the lap trays for working on the floor. The best part is that each student uses the various working options for their own specific needs. This allows for so much autonomy and free choice.”

  • Harry Potter Class Set!

    Funded Jan 10, 2017

I am thrilled to have shared these books with my students. I have been able to teach genre, figurative language, summarizing, characterization and many other important skills for fourth graders. The best part was that the students were enthralled by the story. Harry Potter is a world wide loved story and I am eternally grateful that you allowed me to share it with my students.

Reading in my classroom looks, well, comfy. We find comfortable spots, like beanbag chairs and puffy chairs, and read aloud. We talk about protagonists and antagonists. We evaluate characters feelings and have classroom predictions on how the story will unfold. You have helped me to grow a fondness of reading that many of my students had lost. This gift has been priceless.

Perhaps, the best part of this generous donation is watching a student, with major adversities to chapter books, pick up Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets. They aren't afraid of large books anymore because they have fallen in love with the story.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Burns

  • Bookshelves for the Library

    Funded Feb 27, 2016

Our class has been blessed beyond measure by our new library cart! The tubs are easily labeled and the books are easy to access and re-shelve thus eliminating wasted time searching for the right book. We spend approximately 2 hours each day reading or working on reading skills. 30 minutes of those two hours are spent silent reading. The students pick their own books withing a leveled range and get comfy to read. My student sprawl out across the classroom in bean bags, rocking chairs, and the floor to read their favorite books. Due to our extensive reading instruction and time, my students read over 11,000,000 words this school year. Their love of reading was reignited this year and I am grateful for the help from DonorsChoose and all the donors who have supported that effort this year.

I had one student in particular that this library cart helped. This student deals with disabilities that inhibit his ability to read, process information, and ultimately choose books. This cart has helped his choice options so much because of how the books are organized in small sections and labeled.

Thank you so much for your support. Our student and community have been enriched by your generosity.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Burns

  • "The Long Winter" Class Set

    Funded Nov 17, 2015

This book donation has been such a blessing to my students and myself. We are nearly finished with the book and already multiple students have picked up other books in the Little House on the Prairie series to read in their own time. This peaked interest has also sparked many of my students to do reports on Laura Ingalls Wilder in their Social Studies living wax museum projects.

Students have completed word walls with vocabulary words like slough, petticoats, and kerosene. They have also discovered how life on the prairie was in the western settlement years. I have done teacher read-alouds and the students have read silently, in small groups, and as a class with student volunteers. I adore watching their interest in history, knowledge of realistic fiction, and love of reading blossom while we have read this book.

I love that the students are thoroughly enjoying reading this novel and learning about history through the eyes of a family living on the prairie. My gratitude can never be fully explained. Your love of reading, learning, and my students is a gift that will continue to bless students in years to come.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Burns
