  • Creative Writing Through Digital Stories

    Funded May 12, 2023

My students are able to make use of the chrome books through engaging and interactive applications and learning games. Students are able to use a personalized login system to practice letter formation, foundational writing skills and phonics practice.

My group of diverse learners benefit greatly from multiple forms of instruction. They love being able to engage in multi-sensory activities as they have auditory and kinesthetic modalities activated when they use the computer based writing programs.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Roberts

  • Calming Area

    Funded Feb 7, 2023

Thank you so much for your generosity toward my project. The printer has been amazing to use, creating so many wonderful posters for calming strategies, and coping tools. The most exciting aspect of the cool down center is the independence I have seen. Students know how to access the cool down corner, and how to use the rocking chairs, fidgets, and breathing exercises. I have only one girl in the class, and she in particular has made use of the cool down corner daily. She loves to have a quiet place to self-regulate, always selecting the rocker chair and headphones. The tools and the printer have influenced the classroom significantly by proving students with a safe area to feel calm.”

  • An Equation for Equity

    Funded Mar 19, 2018

Thank you for your wonderful generosity in supporting our class project. Your donation has given my class a new laptop which students use daily for math and literacy intervention, and grade level practice. The students are able to type their login, and practice math facts and fluency. Students participate in daily quizzes and practice their math facts through timed exercises. They demonstrate finding doubles or near doubles, making ten or five, and overall mastery of number sense, and work towards their personalized goals.

The students also engage in a responsive, interactive math program. This play-based game is competitive and interesting for students in a technology generation. They are using the laptop to access both grade-level and intervention based problems. The practice of using a keyboard and responding to story problems in an online platform is essential to their preparation for college and career readiness. The improvement in my students' computer literacy is significant. They are more comfortable using online math tools, manipulatives, and typing responses. They will be better prepared for assessments with these experiences. They can click on counters, or number lines, drag items or use measuring tools to solve a problem. Literacy intervention has also become a surprising and noteworthy use of the laptop donated. Students reading skills are improving by playing games that focus on a specific phonics skill. After an initial assessment they are provided with games for their needs, and I am provided with resources and data to support their learning. Your generosity is deeply appreciated and has made a substantial impact on my learners everyday.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Roberts

My Special Day class needs this laptop to have rigorous math practice and advance their deficient math skills. Using the laptop daily will further foster better math, writing, and computer literacy, as my students will have the opportunity to engage in and type responses to real world math problems. A laptop would enable the use of adaptive applications to perform computations and fortify basic math facts, moving from concrete to abstract math concepts. This Dell laptop will make content comprehensible for all my students with disabilities, through high engagement, interactive math games and building their typing skills. Having adaptive applications further individualizes instruction, as students can work toward understanding place value and performing multi-digit arithmetic including multiplication, and division concepts. My students are highly motivated to learn but are in need of resources to advance their learning.
