  • 180 Days of Social Emotional Learning

    Funded Dec 3, 2024

Thank you for contributing towards the funding of my Donors Choose project. These books provide carefully laid out and simple to use worksheets which I have already infused into my character education lessons. These books make it a lot easier to address the five core components of social and emotional learning.

One thing I have taught my students is that 'Empathy' (social awareness) is my second favorite word (chocolate is number one). Empathy is so important because, by having empathy for others, we can identify friends and/or classmates who are feeling sad or mad or frustrated. By having empathy, we are able to prevent a problem from happening or students can use empathy to resolve conflicts in school. Empathy is such an important focus for our students and the very first set of activities in these books focused on having empathy for those around us.

If these books allow our students to become more empathetic or more compassionate, then the positive impact of these books will be immeasurable.”

  • Flexible Seating for All

    Funded Sep 6, 2023

Students are loving their Surf Laptop desks ! They are easy to store , retrieve and position whether utilizing with a laptop , notebook , or other learning experience . They are great to use from the floor or position on a chair, creating a desk- like experience but far better ! These little desks are wonderful for creating collaborative learning experiences, and students are always excited and welcoming to be in the "Surf Circle !"

As an aside , teachers also find the surf laptops easy to use and fit in with their groups ! We look forward to many hours of happy "surfing !"”

  • Exciting Alternative Recess Activities

    Funded Dec 2, 2022

Our students work really hard in class in the morning and really hard class in the afternoon. Elementary-aged students need a break each day which is one of the reasons recess is so important. Recess is an opportunity to physically expend energy and to emotionally recharge for the afternoon.

Now, if any student who wants to play with a ball or jump rope or talk to their friends has ample opportunity to do so. But, we have student who do not enjoy those activities. Some students walk around trying to find something that piques their interest. Others simply sit on a bench and wait for recess to end. When asked what's wrong, they will say, "I'm bored" or "there's nothing to do." And, I don't blame them. We should be able to provide a wide variety of activities so that each student can enjoy an activity that stimulates their physical or emotional energy.

The items received has allowed us to do just that. Under a tent to provide shade, students can play charades, make up stories through a dice game, encourage positive affirmations, play ring toss, play guess who. These activities require physical energy but also allow students to utilize their creativity and makes students think in a fun, new ways. And, it is just the beginning. Because we will be seeking new games to add to the collection so that more students who would like to enjoy these alternative recess options can do so.

    Thank you!”

  • Yogibo Minis for Kids in Need

    Funded Mar 27, 2018

My job as a School Counselor is two-fold—to help students work through difficult feelings that life brings to the forefront due to obstacles originating both at home and at school; and to help students resolve problems that arise throughout the school day. Teaching students conflict resolution skills is a valuable life lesson, in fact. To achieve those goals, I need a space where the students feel safe enough and comfortable enough to open up to me and trust me. And, the two Yogibo mini bean bags have truly helped me create a welcoming environment in my office. Upon entering my office and seeing the bean bags, students smile. They ask to sit on the bean bags. They look and feel so comfortable and that is imperative for what I do. I am just so grateful for everyone who donated, who helped provide me with the best furniture my students will sit on all day while at school.

And, it really was important to have two chairs. Now, when a student sits on the bean bag, I can sit in the other one so I can talk to them at their level. When I have had two students in my office resolving a problem, they can both sit on a bean bag. The moment they plop down on the bean bag, a huge smile comes across their face. That feeling of comfort makes it easier to talk about what's bothering them and helps resolve the issue.

Since adding the Yogibo Mini Bean Bags, students and staff have all complimented me on the new look of my room. I had got rid of a table and a few chairs to make room. I rearranged my desk and cabinet. I now have a large open space for students to utilize. My next step is to get a colorful carpet to make the space even more inviting to students so we can have group meetings in that space.

Again, thank you very much to everyone!”

    With gratitude,

    Mr. Robbins
